While I agree with the possible need in situations where safety or security is needed, but that is not all the time. The public can be helpful by hearing something and then seeing something that might be helpful and communicating it to the proper authorities. This has happened many times in my county that I have heard. It just happened recently with someone hearing about an impaired driver reported and then the sheriffs office could not find but someone else phone called in and reported the vehicle in a parking lot.I think LEO should be encrypted. I know that will mess up my monitoring pastime. Even back in the late 80s I had encryption on my prep (HT), and for good reason. Operational Security is so very important for the safety and success of our Officers. I do not accept the argument that the police need to be monitored real time by the general public.
