Simply by clicking on this thread, we are all at least not sure how addicted we are...so we need to see how bad others have it. My 396 NEVER leaves me...not necessarily always on, but always ready. My 996 gets 24/7 duty on at the house, recording with ARC996. Every couple of days I delete the files that are more than 5-7 days old (having really never listened to them) I save these in case I hear after the fact that I missed something, then I can always go listen to it later. My 780 does single duty on the county AMB and a 560 that is currently being used as a 2nd base for our baby monitor, and a 2026 dedicated to a single PS freq.

Scanning for years

Just as everyone else here, I too carry at least one scanner on me. I will get some weird looks from the local PD when I happen to walk by and they hear their dispatcher, but no harm no foul right? When I’m at work I usually have two scanners running. One hooked up to the computer monitoring the local trunking systems and the other used for listening to the traffic on those systems. To say the least I get some weird looks at work too….LOL

there is NOTHING worse than running out of batteries on your scanner, and not having a cord...

I have 3 sets of rechargable AAs that I rotate through my camera, my Pro-97 and the battery charger. Love it!

Hi my name is Marty and I'm a Scanaholic !! You'd think that after working for 8 hours a day in my cruiser that I wouldn't want to hear another dispatch. BUT I have you all beat. While patrolling my district, I'm scanning with my 96 the other divisions and EMS. :) Been doing it for 30 years and never get tired of it. I have a 2096 in my truck and a 96 to carry.

Man, some of you guys got it real bad...lol... ! I listen regularly, but do enjoy a scanner-free day from time to time. As for taking my radio out for some fresh air, I usually say "Na, I'm just going around the corner". Sure enough, lights and sirens pass right by me.

You know you are ADDICTED to the scanner when you get injured and you tell someone to get your scanner before they call the fire dept so you can hear the aid call

I was in karate class and got hurt I asked someone to go upstairs and get my scanner so I could hear the aid call

Addicted? Me? <twitch> Just because I have 4 scanners, and one single channel (monitoring the local news stringers notification channel) running 24/7? With 2 more scanners running when I'm awake, searching? <twitch> Sometimes three? <twitch>

Nah, I'm not addicted. <TWITCH>

I think we are all addicted to this great hobby and the good thing is we are not bored after we finish work and I get up at 5 am every day and go to one of the 2 Radio Rooms and put a couple of my Radios on or go downstairs and take a Hand Held with me and listen while I am having breakfast and sometimes is very hard to choose.

I passed addiction in the 70's. Dad had an old crystal scanner with the red light bulbs that would scan.. I can still see it. First purchase as an 'adult' working on my own, was a crystal 4 channel rat shack scanner. If you knew the RS guy well enuff, he'd let you into his 'secret stash' of crystals, DB freqs, etc. Kept the extra crystals in a sucrets case in case I needed to change them quickly.
At any given time I have 3 receivers near me, minimum. My wife often wonders if I went into EMS/Fire in order to justify the radios...lol.
My kids can hear a fire tone and tell you what dept, must mean something.
And you know you have too many scanners when one is MIA, and you're not too worried about it. (I have a pro 83...somewheres in this house)
