One other quick thing, try doing on the scanner keys -- "1" "./no" "1" "E/yes" when it shows nothing to scan and tell me what shows.

even the dept's? or just the Dale and Coffee Cnty Areas?I see the problem..... all quick keys are turned off in the favorites.....doesn't matter what is in the edit of the profile, it only controls the favorites
Click on 1 thru 20 to turn them on in each edit of a favorite --- I am talking about picture #4 - do it for both favorites - that is what controls system quick keys
then show me the picture
ok, done.. I will try reloading in 5 minutes, pups are begging to go out..brb WalaH! Scanning! Chapter 2..Teaching Dummies what the the book says.. lol..You do check the forums time to time for sinking survivors, right?Just the Dale and Coffee Cnty areas, that is what the 4th picture was showing with no checkmarks in any box. You can check all of them but at least 1,2,3,4 must have check marks. I would do 1 thru 20 in case you add a bunch more
On another note. Back a while b4 i gave up and bought programming, i played with Close call thinking it would pick up something i could use.. It is my understanding that is only used for a very short distance, right? If I turned on mode to DND or even Priority, I kept getting radio stations and garbage. I'm sure it was because i had all the Bands on, even when I turned off VHF & AIR bands. If I don't want aircraft or hams, radio stations and such, what bands do you not use? Is there any reason sitting in my living room to used Close call? What about driving down the road?Just the Dale and Coffee Cnty areas, that is what the 4th picture was showing with no checkmarks in any box. yep.. exactly as you describedYou should now be seeing numbers after the S0: on the second line of your scanner screen... you can then turn systems on and off using the keystrokes like 2.1 then "E/Yes"
The numbers on the top line will blink showing which favorite is being scanned and the numbers on the second line will blink showing which system within the favorite is being scanned.
Interesting..So home use I really don't need to use close call.I have never tried Close Call on my SDS100. Way back when that feature first got implemented, I bought a Uniden BCD396XT scanner in 2009 (which I still have and still use a lot), it had that feature. I tried it a few times and got the same mess you did. The VHF High included at that time a lot of police and fire but it also included hams, business radios, railroads (which I like), plus signal generating frequencies. The BCD396XT had a feature where you could search more specific frequencies such as Fire/Police, Railroads, Airplanes, HAMS, etc. That feature worked well because for example railroads are between 160.000 and 161.515 and nothing else is in there. The police/fire only searched police/fire assigned frequencies because FCC assigns those services to a specific group of frequencies in the 154 to 156 area plus some other limited areas such at 460 to 468.
The search feature has carried over into later Uniden versions where you set the low end frequency and the high end frequency and let is search for hits (the same as the 396XT). Later versions also started using Service Type which helps eliminate unwanted stuff. They also allow location scanning and searching for certain Service Types which is what the 436/536 and the SDS100/200 allow.
If you are sitting at home, you generally want to use the Search type features where you can limit it to particular service types. If it a known trunk system, you can use SEARCH-ID like you did to find additional talk groups.
If you are driving down the road, most people use the Location feature which by default is turned off. To use that, you have to tell the scanner where it is geographically located via a Zip Code or a GPS coordinate. It then looks for stuff based on a distance you set from where you are and what Service Types you have enabled. If you are real serious about mobile scanning, you buy a GPS unit that will constantly tell the scanner where it is, but most folks tend the limit the search to 10 miles and limited Service Types such Law Dispatch, Fire Dispatch, and Law Talk. Otherwise you get the same overload of junk.
Thank you! I am keeping a MS doc of all your goodies for reference..cause you know the older i get the more i need help remembering what I had for breakfast...@jjl0412 - I forgot to tell you, if you want to easily turn on or off all System Quick Keys when you are editing a favorites in Sentinel, it is real easy.
While in edit for a favorite, click on the System Quick Key Status tab, and then anywhere on that page in an open space, right click and a box will pop up to give the option of Set All On or Set All Off then click on whichever you want to happen, then save the favorite.
The same thing works for the Quick Keys Tab in Edit Profile, while displaying the status, just right click in any open space and get that option.
If you want to turn all SQKs on now, it won't hurt anything or slow anything down. Just edit both favorites. All FQK are already turned on in the profile. If you do that, it not worth writing just that to the scanner. I would wait until you edit something else and then send the new quick keys status to the scanner. There is no particular reason to think you need all 100.
I have all quick keys enabled in all of my favorites and the profile but I still think that is the system default because I know I never went in there and turned them all on. Not sure why yours were turned off unless ScanMaster did that.
I know - you are thinking why didn't my brain remember that when you were running thru checking boxes 1 thru 20. I am just glad my brain still remembers things even if it a little late.![]()
Fortunately we have several guys here in central Kentucky that have very advanced equipment with outdoor antennas to search for things. i am not one of them. They have their systems setup to run 24 hours a day with logging turned on so they see every hit without having to stare at the screen and write down what they see. They also frequently look at who is getting new assigned frequencies from the FCC. Thus when a new system is coming online, they begin looking because the FCC listing show frequency and type of equipment (NXDN, P25, DMR) plus tower locations so they know where to point their antenna.
The BEST part is the are very accurate and submit that accurate info to get into RR database in a weekly or monthly time. This is similar to what it sounds like @millam is doing in your area. Mil has already submitted the info we found as a group to get updated.
We have two almost statewide electric utilities companies implementing two separate DMR trunk systems, each of which will cover 1/2 to 2/3 of the state. These guys with help from others around the state have located every tower plus have determined all of the frequencies they use and have determined most of the talk groups and neither system has gone live yet, but all that info is in RR database. They are listening to the implementation techs setup the system. We are very lucky to have those kinds of dedicated enthusiasts.
These guys continue to scan currently implemented systems such our State Police even though they have been on the same system for 20 years with only talk about some day getting something new.
Opps, it looks like the LGE/KU DMR just went live yesterday on two sites and that info has already been submitted.

Ok don't see AIRS. I only hear Ozark if i use Discone antenna.. i'm back on Original ducky. I can hook discone back up if needed. (Hopefully Diamond fixes that.. ) i pick up Daleville sometimes.. agsin..antenna issue.Based on what has been posted so far versus what I see in the Sentinel DB, yes you need to do some editing. But first I need to see some screen shots of what SM loaded for you because if it matches RR database, we need to update stuff.
Here is what I need screen shots of....
Bring up Sentinel on your computer,
Click on Dale Area to expand it.
Click on Al First AIRS Net to expand it
Click on Dale County and post a screen shot - should show a bunch of entries such as police and fire
Click on Ozark and post a screen shot - not sure what you have there
Click on Ozark (Barnes) which has a bunch of frequencies and post a screen shot
Click on Ozark (Dale SO) and post a screen shot.
Also are you hearing the Ozark Police or anything else listed in Dale County entries?
I think there are two problems, wrong TGIDs and wrong frequencies.
yes.. and i thought we were good.. Ok Yoda...em... jjl0412@yahoo.comWe have a lot of editing to do. AIRS is what you have named Alabama First Responder Network. Apparently people regularly shorten that to AIRS
This is going to be a long one. Do you have relatively high speed network where I can just send you an email with some pictures so you can print it out. Putting all of the info into a post here may be more than a page long and hard to follow. I see your email address near the beginning of this thread.
