To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

In applying the latest Firmware 3.03 to my Anytones, I've noticed that in "Device Info" on the radio it now shows Chinese characters where it used to show the English model name. This is a new "feature" since the previous 3.02N. I have set the language to English both in CPS and in the Anytone utility for the boot loader. Is it just me, or are others seeing the same thing with Firmware 3.03?

I can’t answer your question just yet but I will be installing the update very soon on my AnyTone AT-D878UVII Plus.

What I need to know is this. I am still at version 2.05 firmware. Do I need to install all of the firmware updates in sequence or does the AnyTone firmware gurus make it possible to immediately jump from (v)2.05 directly to (v)3.03 firmware?

Also, has anybody installed the APRS+BT (v)1.06 update and can verify that it is a good set of code?

The APRS+BT 1.06 is fine and works very well. The 2.00 version is included with the 3.03 firmware zip file so you might just want to install that one. And no you don't have to install them in sequence. If you just get 3.03 and install it that fully updates your firmware. It includes everything so there's no need to install all the previous updates first.

Thanks for the information. I will try to get the updates installed today or Saturday.

Now running FW (v)3.03

No Chinese characters under “Device Info”

Also installed APRS+BT (v)1.06

Have not tested APRS+BT.

Also installed the new Icon set.

The new icons are better, e.g. the GPS icon now looks like a satellite.

I’ll keep you posted on my testing.

Thanks for the info @K4EET ! Mine aren't doing it any more either btw. I did another MCU reset and full reload, and they're fine now. I know they do need a full MCU reset after a firmware update and I thought I had done that already but there was a lot going on that day and I'm wondering now if I accidentally skipped that part in the middle of everything. Either way, they're all working now. Thanks again!
