Why do you need to reset to factory default? For a USA $2000.00+ reciever if it is that bad, you better contact AOR directly.

Have you tried this (from section 19-1 of the manual)?:

19-1 Soft reset of microprocessor
If removing power and switching the AR8600 off / on does not help, try a soft reset of the
microprocessor. Soft reset is achieved by powering-up the radio with the CLEAR key held, do not
release the CLEAR key until the opening message has performed and a frequency is displayed in
2VFO mode.
All scan & search environments are cleared, bank link is set off and the receiver frequency will be set to
88.000 MHz for both VFO-A and VFO-B. The beep will be enabled and set to default as will lamp and
LCD contrast. All memory and search bank data will be intact.

Good luck.

Raymond,

When you refer to "Global Protect" do you mean "Write Protect"? Also, do you have the EM8200 installed?

Section 11 of the manual explains write protect. Apparently nothing in the radios database can be changed or deleted if the write protect is enabled.
I would copy and paste from the manual but it doesn't copy/paste everything. If necessary I can paste and then send the info. to you via email. Let me know.

Fine business Raymond. I misunderstood your comment, so I apologize. I LOVE AOR products and I own a 8600MKII and 8200MKIII (I also had a AR5000+3 but had to sell it for personal reasons). I am always learning something new and I find the settings very easy to change "on the fly" when needed. I know they don't scan quickly, but I have other radios I use for scanning. I use my AOR's as VHF/UHF receivers and the occasional HF listening as well. Like you, I do not always like to sell my radios (I listed them under my name).
Good luck with the next purchase and let me know which one you buy!

Raymond,
Seems like you are still in VFO mode. Try clicking on Stop/Mem. That should take you out of VFO mode and then you should be able to right click on a memory line and edit/enter a memory channel.
