I'm not sure this poor speaker quality (instead of reception issue) has anything to do with don't want to learn, By the way I'm working in silicon valley working on OS kernel on embedded industry, with lot of hardware chip involvment, always eager to learning new things DAILY.

On the other hands, I wonder if we are talking on the same base, are you using the new 436HP or based on the old day model before acquired SDS100.

I've complained on soooooo many posts about this. WE can get it fixed or a rebate for poor quality!!
Other Uniden portables don't have this problem, so it is a defect.
Lets let them design a new speaker, and start a recall
OR YES, a class action lawsuit??

A rebate on the $0.75 speaker? How much do you think you deserve back, $0.25? Of course the attorneys will take $0.15 of that ...

Retain an attorney, file the paperwork and we'll wait for you to post the link from the attorney so we can all sign on. In other words, you're talking out your back end, and if you're not happy with a product, you have options.

Duel processor, large screen, heavy-duty battery, hand-held portability....something's gotta give.

And the speaker was that.

But at least they gave an alternative to the speaker: the ability to hook up an external speaker.

Considering the technically-complicated systems we're trying to receive, it's not a bad radio.

We just have to adapt.

my 436 was five star!

use it for listening (that means audio), not color screen, revised case, and no $$$ accessories (new and improved antennas - garbage-; extra batteries, charger) 436 was a charm with couple of extra recharge batteries.

Yea, earphones are so yesterday. Now you have to strap a speaker to your head.

I try to stay out of these kind of threads, but here goes...

My SDS100 sounds good to me as far as digital stuff goes. I'm not overly impressed with the analog recovered audio, but that's a function of the audio processing and not the speaker I believe...but I could be wrong.

"guys like me would bury it"... Don't let me discourage you from filing a lawsuit on behalf of those who feel as strongly as you do on this matter.

My suspicion is you dropped or spilled something on the scanner, and now you're wondering why the speaker sounds bad. As I said you're talking out your back end, but for $500 for your "broken scanner", you can dump it off and someone will send it to Uniden for repairs.

The speaker are too small and works more like a tweeter and lacks mid range. That works good for digital systems as most of them doesn't have much treble and sound muffled and digital doesn't have any background noise that would be enhanced with a tweeter sounding speaker. The simulcast capability are also oriented towards digital systems. Analog systems sounds good using an external speaker.

Oh ya, Mine is new, screen protector, extra battery and charger. NEVER left the house.
Any buyers so I can get a new 436??

If you have already sold it to someone else, then what is done is done. If it is new and you are within your return window, simply contact your dealer for a refund. There is always a small chance that you received a defective unit. It happens. Do not accept an exchange. Simply get a refund, and if you like the radio, other than the audio, simply buy another new unit for a different dealer--- one that offers a 30 day return policy. If the new one sounds as bad as the old one, return it and move on to the 436.

After all the _______ about the speaker, I could use some good cheese! Since digital the frequencies sound great, I'm not willing to blame the speaker. But still it's a portable radio and nothing in this life is 100% perfect, no matter how much we would like it to be. I've found that on a couple of analog frequencies an adjustment to the volume offset seems to make a small improvement.

Volume offset is it very valuable tool with the 100. After all those years of muffled garbled audio from Uniden I was pleased with the sds100. Sounds great to me. I would have to be the odd man out.

As Scotty said, aye captain, it's no tribble at all... for those of you who get the reference.

I expect and hope so, and that is the case for my 436HP, unfortunately not the case for my SDS100, a faint but quite distinguished white noise is accompanied throughout with the P25 talk, however, this sound is not heard via phone jack or recording. Nobody hear this, my speific SDS100's speaker issue?

I dunno man, on the rare occasion I do hear a digital transmission, it's so damn crisp and clear I notice immediately. Now I do hear some hiss on analog, but that's just the nature of the beast, being that I'm some distance from the source of the transmission... and I hear it on all my scanners.

I'm not talking about analogue but digital (sorry the thread starts with analogue I apologize for kind of hijacking), my SDS100 is also crisp along with hiss with the speaker. But BCD436HP speaker is much cleaner, rich and crisp and is less ear piercing to cause fatigue. Do you have one or specifically recent manufactured 436HP? This is what the thread is about. My 466HP is made in 2021, SDS100: 2020 FYI
