Hi all.

Does anyone have any experience programming a RadioShack Pro-2096.

The programming cable arrived yesterday and
I have been able to program Aviation, Marine, UHF without issue.

Any attempts to program P25 Phase 1 fail, but if I perform a frequency search, the scanner can listen, decode and show TGID with audio.

In my research it talks about a "Band Plan" which I'm yet to understand

Any advice would be appreciated.

Back when I had he DTS-96 (Aus version of the Pro-96) this was a thing in some areas / some systems, I never spent enough time to work it all out.

Please provide a link to the P25 system you are trying to scan.
I would however the P25 information doesn't match the frequency in question.

I've read most of the reference material on RR.and Google but still fall short.

I've had some response stating the scanner is "analogue" only however if that was the case the scanner would not decode P25 at all.

The frequency I can decode are either in the 160mhz or 400mhz range

For any P25 trunked system using other that 800 MHz frequencies you will be required to enter a band plan. The 2096 is unable to trunk track 700 MHz frequencies.;. The scanner was manufactured before that band became available. The 2096 des not load the band plan from the control channel. Please post a link to the system you are trying to receive.

I'm not able to post a link as mentioned the RR database for Australia is out of date and doesn't show the frequency in question

Here is a video of my scanner in action which I manually programed before the cable arrived.

Is it a conventional frequency or trunked system? What programming software do you use. I have ARC96.
To be honest I couldn't give a definitive answer. I did a frequency search at the time and located the local frequency.

I want to program the system so I can see the talkgroups if possible.

I have both ARC96 and Win96

If it is a control channel, for a trunked system, you should hear a constant buzz. If it is conventional, it may be encrypted, DMR, or NXDN. What is the frequency?

Here's a link to download the Pro-2096 user manual in .pdf format:
Follow the instructions for programming the "Motorola analog, digital, and APCO-25 systems" located on pages 56 and 57 of this .pdf file. If you have the original, printed manual, then these instructions will be on pages 68 and 69.

P-25 (aka APCO-25), was renamed to P-25, Phase 1 back around 2012 when Phase-2 came out. However, since P-25 is the same as P-25, Phase 1, they are both also referred to as APCO-25.

I realize you want to program it using the software, but if you can get the control channel frequencies, you might be more successful trying it manually.

Hope this helps.

422.5375 is the frequency from the video. I have searched the RR database as nd it fails to find the frequency.

I have looked over the manual numerous times. Unfortunately the manual doesn't cover countries outside of the US. Our P25 systems in Australia are completely different.

Australian P25 Phase 1 has been in the 160Mhz range and 400mhz range.

800 mhz was EDACS at one stage however that has been closed down and no longer used.

i'm going to go out on a limb and say that was P1 (fire service) only P2 is TDMA so that scanner would not decode

I have searched the RR database
wrong database mate, its only dependant on what us as users input , unless you have an Australian govt website that shows the fx you are guessing at best

I was unaware of that. Oh well, no harm done.

I just got done manually programming a local EDACS system into my pro-2096. It took a few tries to understand everything, but I eventually figured it out. When I was looking at the APCO-25 programming, it showed that coding in just the control channel frequencies might be all you'll need to do. Are your P-25 systems different in scheme, or just in the receive frequency ranges used? If the changes are just the frequency ranges used, is it possible to plug in any of the known control channel frequencies? Perhaps you might get lucky!

Of course I am totally ignorant of how P-25 works down under, so I'll just step back, and let the rest help you sort it out.

Best of luck!
