Fortunately, GA
I started off with the browse library install. And have since used the ez scan software to install the updated channels. and add wildcard to get it to scan.I am hearing more traffic than I was.I am seeing things on the display when it talks like....TGRP 80,,21360,,50,,17481,,56,,57,,and wildcard.do i need to add these to the scanner ? I dont no what the RAN is.thanks Larry

The two digit numbers look like TGID's. The five digit numbers are Radio ID's. That means you put in a Private Wildcard. If you want to follow what is on those TG's to ID them, yes, put them in the scanner. Then you can figure out who is what on those. Don't worry about the RAN on a trunk system. That only applies on conventional frequencies

Glad you got it working. A lot of people just have a hard time with the software. Took me about three months to figure it out. And that is many years ago. The biggest problem is with the GA database being old and out of date.
Enjoy!

This is incorrect. RAN values apply to trunk system frequencies as well. If you set an incorrect RAN value, the radio will not receive on those frequencies.

Make sure you use a wildcard ("any") for site frequencies until you know for sure.

Encrypted or not hummm

Before we totally confuse led115. Why don't we just let him digest the info and answer back.
I use four sites for Habersham county's DMR system. I don't miss any comms when traveling through that county. It's necessary to maintain connection and hear what's going on in the county.
Larry

So Larry you saying Habersham so is not encrypted? Thinking about getting back into the game and buy some new gear.

I am tring to start over and find as many talkgroups as I can.I
dont think I have them all that easy.We have things like detectives and
drug units that stay on the interstate all the time and I know i can't
be getting it all. I'm sure alot of business is done on the phone.
I was afraid I might have done something to stop my password from
doing it's job; so i want to start over. what better way to learn
I dont know how to factory default this scanner but I entered
a blank folder via the software and entered BANKS CO.by browse library
and then add system.
it loads 1 talk group named HOMER so I edit the frequencies and use the ones
in the previous post by Troymail and go on to add all the cites listed
also and enter their frequencies.in which I believe to be correct for the most part.
I go to add talkgroup and then to TGID Wildcard and add 65535 I read that password somewhere
in the owners manual I guess... anyways to make a long story short.I can't get
a peep out of it for 2 days tring LOL
I did edit it straight through the scanner and not the software if you think
that would matter..
thanks for reading and am trying to explain it the best I can.
since this is not your first rodeo. I believe you no what I am trying to do.

As far as talk groups there should only be 2 more in fire/ems. Tac 2 and training. LE won't have that many more talkgroups as well. Might be some admin stuff and public works but not sure many people listen to that. You have found the main ones.

Given the number of sites and frequencies, there just has to be more. I know we've seen a few talkgroups (last week) that we haven't identified yet -- lots of talk about batteries and chargers....

I've attempted to map the sites - the map below are the 6 sites with 8 mile radius circles around them (fairly small radius). Larry has detected activity on all but the Ila site on the southeast (which may not actually be active).

Larry is doing a great job capturing activity and we're jointly pulling things together. Hopefully, we've have an update for the RRDB soon.

Troymail, Thanks for your work on this. I was just across the county line in Habersham County today and was able to monitor Banks Co. I was getting traffic on the frequencies you had listed, but also was getting consistent hits on 453.3375 and 453.55625 and was tied to RAN3. I see these listed earlier in this post but not in the most recent list of frequencies you had. These show in the earlier post as being tied to the Old Orchard Rd location in Baldwin, which would have been the location closest to me. Did you show any hits on these 2 frequencies?

Sorry - yes.

I should have posted the submission since there were in fact updates since the previous posts.

Here is what was submitted (note that the control channel frequency may be changing at times on some sites - not entirely unusual for trunk systems).

As someone who has worked for Banks County, I can tell you there is very little radio traffic you are going to hear. There is just not that much going on. There is multiple tac channels that rarely ever get used. I have previously monitored the system using SDR just for fun but there really wasn't much to listen to. Alot of information is shared using MDT's as well. Fire dispatch is simulcasted on the paging frequency like Jackson county. The old Sheriff repeater is still active for mutual aid with other counties and outside agencies coming in are patched to the system at dispatch. It has it's flaws but it is actually a pretty good system. Hopefully they will not encrypt it, I think as long as it doesn't get streamed they won't. As someone else said "this ain't your grandpas scanner" and and people using them for unlawful use aren't going to go through the steps needed to monitor it.

Happy scanning yall!

My family owns an old farm house in Homer which I visit on occasions. It would be nice if Uniden added NXDN to their x36 scanners so I can monitor the area when I go back up there. Thanks to those who did the research to update the Banks County system..
