• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am not new to radio by any means, but new to the DMR world. I have my amateur ticket, but am currently just interested in monitoring local DMR systems so I have not registered for a DMR ID. The system that I am starting with is our local school district in St. Paul, MN. The call sign for the frequencies in the system is WRBQ503. I have confirmed that this is a DMR system (emission designator 7K60FXE). The high school near me has a repeater on frequency 453.5875 which I have programmed into the radio in VFO mode. I am aware that I also need the time slot and color code information. Because I do not have this information, I was under the impression that I could operate the radio in "digital monitor" mode as shown in this video and all transmissions would come through. I have the radio in DMR mode, the frequency entered, and I enable the monitor mode as indicated by the little speaker on the display screen. I have GroupCall Match and PrivateCall Match both off. I can hear a digital signal on my analog scanner and the green receive light comes on on the Baofeng, but no audio passes through the speaker. I have also tried entering the frequency as a memory channel and get the same results. Additionally, I also tried a local 70cm DMR repeater. Again, I can see the signal, but get no audio. My firmware is L05.03.011. What am I missing? I appreciate any helpful information that the community of experts can provide.

I tried that stuff with my 1701...after several attempts-I gave it up. My new scanner I just punched in my zip code, and all the digital stuff was there. I then just punched in the analog stuff.
Good luck!

Never had much luck with the 1701 in open mode. When I did finally find stuff it would sound as if they were using a speech inversion or scrambler type encryption when they were not. Might try a $20 SDR. They could also have the license wrong and be in P25, NXDN, etc.

Could also go the route to ensure you are programming everything right and see if you can get into your local DMR-MARC repeater, etc.
Since talkgroups get recycled you could go ahead and work on your code plug and if the school uses the same numbered talkgroup you would be able to pick it up. I am thinking they would keep it simple like CC1 TS 1 TG 1 or 100, etc.
