If you did all your homework before putting $500 / $600 down, and now have the scanner in hand and do not like it...Uniden offers a 30 day return policy. Otherwise, get in gear and start learning it; instant gratification is NOT guaranteed.

Greg

Where did you purchase your scanner?

No, it did not. It offered a 30 day, no questions asked guarantee. And, by the way, I emailed them about restocking fees. No such thing if it was within the 30 day period. I don't know if scanner master has that 15% fee, but it would not surprise me. They want you to pay just to load a zip code in the scanner for you.

"The 536 /436 are NOT attached to RR."

But the HP1 is.....

And although the "HP" designation seems to have disappeared from postings here, the 436/ 536 scanners are in fact HOME PATROL scanners. As such, tied inextricably to each other.

I think that was the point LIScanners and others were trying to make here.

I understand. So again can you share your source?

Normally, I would not give this info to anyone looking to doubt my word or find fault. I have little time for such nonsense. But I will tell you what they said in the email, which also is on their site:

Any product that is returned within 30 days, but not faulty, will pay a 25% restocking fee IF the product box or shipping contents are damaged / lost. It is not hidden or kept secret. Just click on the refund policy and they tell you right up front.

Does anyone buy a product and NOT look at the refund policy??

That is nothing new. Most will not take a new item back for free if you destroyed the box and lost half the packaging. Thats why it is called "restocking."

I was in error above but I won't delete it. I was thinking of Amazon. Most all I buy is from Amazon due to their policies.. I bought it at "abetterplacetobuy,"

Hogwash.

We apply the same moderation standards to everyone and on topics related to any product.

I support Lindsay's position -- I see no difference in RR's administration of posts. The difference lies in those making the post's. I see UPMAN's postings as evidentiary in nature - either to provide or receive information -- no emotion involved. However there are a few RR's members invoking some negative emotion in their language and complaining over and over and over and over...............

Scanner's needs to be a jack of all trades (given the large number of bands and system types) and they will have compromises... As I have said this in other posts if you are unhappy with your Uniden purchase you can return it and go with another model or manufacturer. And if you already have a scanner that works well on the systems you are interested in feel lucky - many aren't in the same boat no matter what scanner they buy.

I would still be very interested in knowing what specific channels are correct in RRDB but appear incorrectly on the scanner. But, so far, no information has been provided that would allow me to evaluate these statements.

I wouldn't hold your breath for that, either.

Even if proof is offered, what's the big deal?! Out of the MILLIONS of records in the RRDB the scanner didn't correctly parse one? Dear God, phone the President, we have a crisis on our hands.

I honestly don't get it. You can update the alpha tag to whatever the hell you want it to say simply by putting the offending record in a favorites list and changing it either in Sentinel or even directly on the scanner itself. It's ridiculously easy.

The HP1 is no more attached to the RR database than the new scanners are.

Then that is an incorrect point.
Trying to equate the fact that the HP-1 required having the Extreme Upgrade
in order program systems in via the front panel with the fact that both the
BCD436HP and BCD536HP (Happy that I included the "HP" part of their name?) let you more easily enter systems in by the front panel is ludicrous.
That is like comparing the fact that because the first Ipods had a firewire connector that somehow means that subsequent ipods were somehow flawed because they had a USB connector instead. It makes no sense.
No one is trying to make the HomePatrol designation disappear. You need to open your eyes if you truly believe that. Hell look at my first post in this thread.
The HP-1 was the first of its kind. The BCD436HP and BCD536HP combine the the best of the HP-1 with the XT line.
The only point some folks around here are making quite clear is that they have an
inherent Anti-Uniden bias for whatever reason and these folks would still find something to complain about and they will try to spread inaccurate information no matter what UPMan & Uniden does for this hobby.
Wonder if these same folks will hold Whistler to these same standards?
Will be interesting to see....

A-friggin'-men. Thank you for saying it. You're certainly not the only one thinking it.

I don't mind legitimate critiques of features of the scanner, that can only benefit the community, but what I don't understand is the same incessant whining over and over in multiple threads from users who DO NOT EVEN OWN THE SCANNER YET!!!
