Why BCT-

I wonder why Uniden is putting this one out under the BCT- line as opposed to the BC(D)-xxxT one... The BCT-8 always seemed to be the budget model...

I'll still probably end up getting one... or more....

I'm assuming D may stand for Digital Trunking and the T stand for Analog trunking. I know there are conventional P25 users but this is what's in my head. T= analog basically.

USASCAN.com is quoting shipping on 7/6/06.
Who seems to get the first shipments out?
HRO, Scanners Unlimited, Ham Station?

Hey UPMan, I notice the BCT15 preview images are showing red backlighting as the 996 did. Is this a realistic representation or will it actually be orange?

Also, the preview images show a rubber plug in the serial port. Will that piece ship with the BCT15? Is that a part that is sold separately?

It is more of an orangey red. The image isn't actually showing a plug, it just lacks detailing of the internal "blade" (it is showing a gaping black hole...).

On the display, it will have the option to switch to green backlighting right???
Please say it's so..... I can't stand that orange. The green is much easier to see for me.

I plan to Pre-Order my BCT 15 by weeks end from Glenn at ScannersUnlimited.

I was going to wait a while to see what happens with the scanner, make sure there are no bugs, etc. I may regret it later, but I am going to do it anyway.

I hope the new BCT15 has a receiver as good as my BC898. Hows the 996 as far as desense and intermod from strong in band signals? I bought a PRO2055 because of the alpha display and it is horrible when hooked to an outside antenna. It just rolls over and dies. You have to use the attenuator just to receive anything, which of course defeats the purpose of having an outside antenna. The internal attennuator drops sensitivity from .2 uv @ 12db to 1.5 uv @12db Sinad on VHF. So why hook up an outside antenna if I have to add some much attenuation. I added a VHF 6 inch notch cavity filter tuned to the local pager tX and a 3 db anttenuator just to get it working as good as the old BC898.

I may have to bring the PRO2055 back and get a BCT15 if they arrive before my 30 days from the shack is up.

I am having the exact same problem with my PRO-2055 - it overloads way to easy with an outside antenna making it just about useless.

I hope the BCT15 is like the 898 or the 780 as far as sensitivity goes. The 898 and 780 work great with outdoor antennas.

UPMAN, is Uniden really going to charge for the UASD software for the BCT15?

Yep, and the din sleeve as well.

I see it as a way to keep the cost of the radio down.

Which I know I will appreciate myself as I have no need for either... well maybe the software to start until Butel comes out with thier release.

Any new update on shipping dates?

The BCT15 has the same FCC ID number, so It's a safe bet that it will have the same receiver circuit as the 996. Both radios are double sheilded with an inner and outer metal case if you use it as a base or hang it on the mounting bracket in the mobile it should be quasi "bullet" proof.
