My understanding is they will only simulcast when mutual aid is assigned.
Yeah, cause that's one more step in an already busy dispatch environment that will never be missed...

Yes, as of Tuesday, January 17th, they have completely swapped over to the new 800 system. For those that can't here the 800, they will simulcast on the old Saco/Bidd dispatch only on calls that have mutual aid responding, and those calls will be patched to the old Bidd Fire Ops. My understanding is they will only simulcast when mutual aid is assigned.
Stupidest thing I've ever heard. Blows my mind with the decisions that are made

I have nothing to do with the decisions of their system. I would never advise someone to set up a system in this manor. As someone who will be interacting with it, I can tell you that we are all interested to see how it will shake out.

I will admit that the 800 side of the system, from the samples I have heard, sound great. I have been told that the signal is not carrying far outside the mutual aid area, which was true of their VHF system.

Nobody is blaming you. You provide excellent info. It's just it gets my blood boiling when the taxpayers spend millions of dollars on what was once the buzzword, interoperability, and yet the total opposite happens. Case and point, interoperability is a mindset.

When a user (member of the RR community) makes some valid OTA confirmed monitoring submissions.

BTW you only need the FB2 channels

only being a tourist to 207, we will find out over the summer, if actually in use by then
I would find it odd for it to be built out with out the major Public Safety members on-board and using it

Considering that the Chief of Police was a major proponent of the new system, I'd be astonished if they didn't switch over, too--they may already have done so--I'm no longer a local.

Regarding encryption, I doubt the PD would voluntarily switch back to being "in the clear" without some major push from the taxpayers of Biddeford. Then again, the PD Chief just retired two days ago after 51 years on the force. A new Chief might see the community partnership value of police transparency--if only on the dispatch channel. As long as you're building out a new system, it would be relatively simple to have as many encrypted channels as you want, but leave the dispatch channel in the clear.
