They have about 4 channels for PD but it seems that the only channel used is channel 4. Currently they use clear provoice.. wonder what they will update too.

That system isn't terribly old either. Maybe with the death of EDACS they are going to transition to P25 as well...

Hey Dog. Can you provide a link with the article. I did not know that Brantford had a paper.
There is a great fast food greasy spoon right near the Sanderson.

The City has agreed to open a dialouge with Harris Corp. in regards to upgrading the EDACS system to a P25 standard. After lengthy argumements in council as to why the project was not tendered, they agreed. This will only affect PD and FS. The city has no plans to add new users to the system in the near future

Yes, anything is possible.

However, since none of us are psychic, you are probably just going to have to wait and see.

I don't think you need to worry about the FD being encrypted, as funding is tight for this project. They will however be digital. The project is not to be completed until 2013, so still lots of monitoring to have.
On a side note there was some signal strength and readability testing going on Friday morning.
Talk goup 00-023 was coming up.

$2M upgrade urged for fire, police radio - Brantford Expositor - Ontario, CA

The staff report provides a preliminary estimate of $2 million for both the police and fire components of the system.

After listening to a lengthy presentation by Deputy Fire Chief Jeff McCormick, Lapp-Hancock technical consultant Dan Perlstein and city police Insp. Geoff Nelson, some councillors expressed concern at working with one company instead of issuing a tender call or request for proposals.

The consultant recommended staying with the existing supplier.

The three presenters told councillors the existing system is gradually failing, although Insp. Nelson reassured them the problems are not at a critical stage.

Perstein said that six companies have the technology but only two -Harris and Motorola -have support and maintenance people available in southwestern Ontario.

The transition would be managed in a four-step process of upgrades to the user equipment, the trunk radio infrastructure, the dispatch component, and upgrade the three-channel backup.
