Most likely they could use Star-Link as a satellite solution most likely. Why not.

Starlink and every other satellite solution requires sky, open sky, with little to no obstruction. Everywhere 700MHz doesn't work (and even VHF in some places), is also where satellite won't work. Canyons, winding along rivers, creeks, with pines and oaks and redwoods and sequoias...Although some remote places after the Mendocino Complex and Dixie Fire are now unfortunately very satellite-friendly.

Pyramid vehicular repeaters was at APCO. They had the Viking multiband set up with Pyramid repeater setup similar to what CHP uses, on display. Attached to it was a Cobham BGAN radio/antenna.

May not work everywhere, but I know of specific places I work where there is no radio coverage, even on low band, where my satellite phone/Garmin InReach device works.

Not saying that CHP is going that way, only that the manufacturers are seeing it as a solution. If someone picks up that solution and uses it remains to be seen.

Plus the system only works when in a fixed point and doesn’t have near 100% daily uptime.

I've been seeing the same callsign on a few different sites, it looks like the state has made an update in the FCC DB...

It's the license for all of the states 700 MHz allocation so it should be broadcasting on any site that's using that allocation including conventional sites.

The 'update' is a response to the FCC wanting to take away part of the allocation.

So we have multiple sources now saying Site 53 is Rocky Butte. Before I make the change, does anyone know what Site 35 is? One source indicated it was "Toro Mtn".

Disregard, apparently Site 35 was submitted in error. I will remove it from the DB.

FWIW, I have picked it up but I'm not sure where I was at the time...I have 9D0 as Site 1-16 and Site 1-20 (Loma Prieta).

EDIT ADD: It seems like most every time I heard 1-16 was in the lowlands of the bay, specifically nearby to EBRCS areas.

-Frank C.

Perhaps Sunol Ridge? That was one of the sites shown on the bay area map a while back.

FWIW, my receiver in Brentwood is hearing site 21 (Nevada County?) on 773.08125. Sunol Ridge is shadowed by Morgan Territory, so I wouldn't necessarily hear that well.

Quite a bit of ENC activity on TG 139 on Lukens today among RID 307, 417, and 493.

Actually, the only RID that made it into the recording logs was 417, the rest are “N/A”.

TGID 2061 also had a short encrypted tx, again, no RID.
