Heard the CWRS references today, users seemed to be mainly in the Santa Clarita Valley from locations given. And several asked if they were heard on "the Harris radio".

It's interesting that you weren't able to pick up any sites from the Antelope Aquatic Center, one of the first locations I "played" with this system was in the parking lot of the Kohl's at Antelope and Don Julio. Pine Hill came in rather well from that location on my Unication and SDS100. I also drove around the Rio Linda area testing the range of a few sites and got fairly good results in that area.

I thought it was weird too. It might've been in the shadow of the school or something since I was down at the lower pool?

Looks like CHP is on CRIS now and some talkgroups are Encrypted.

I noticed these updates too, and some key questions come to mind:
  • Why would CHP run clear FDMA on the base TGs but encrypted TDMA for Mobile TGs?
  • How does the information supplier know the identity of encrypted TGs
  • Why would the CHP employ the base/mobile structure on a trunking network?

Hmmm are the mobiles coming out clear on the base? Or you just hear the dispatcher?

OK let’s dive into this. From what it appears the dispatch channel which is the base channel will be FDMA clear. I suspect the dispatch channels remain active and in the clear for outside agencies to monitor not everyone will have an APX.
In conclusion the mobile channel which is TDMA and encrypted with AES-256 this would allow CHP to be in compliance with the DOJ mandate about confidential Personal information.
I personally think CHP is going to keep the original set up so officers won’t have a hard time adjusting to the new system by totally Redesigning it. K.I.S.S.

Looks like they've just patched these from all the low-band channels for the Valley Division, which makes sense as being where Com Div HQ is located, right? BLU2 is the division tac. BLK3, GRN3, and GLD3 are all the Sacto Center dispatch channels. WHT3 is Stockton Center. BRN3 is Chico Center. The only missing one is Chico Center's GRY2; any bets on it being 871 and 872?

From my understanding the entire system is (was) supposed to be fully TDMA voice.

Just my personal thoughts, they will have one "primary" 'channel' in the clear and a second "tac" 'channel' encrypted to pass PII.

From what I have been told, the Kenwood radios are already setup with the base/mobile frequencies as a single 'channel' (RX on base frequency/TX on mobile frequency), they also have different alpha tags with a separate 'channel' for each area office, even if more than one area office is on the same frequency.
