I haven't heard anything. Seeing as it was in Rockyview District I don't think Calgary would send anything unless Rockyview didn't have the resources. I'm guessing Airdrie would have sent mutual Aid. According to the news clip I've read, Other than the fire spreading to multiple structures it was a somewhat contained fire with no injuries. It is a major loss for the owner though and many people who buy Sparks eggs will be affected. Very sad.

Heres the story http://www.calgaryherald.com/life/P...ills+chickens+east+Calgary/4908378/story.html

Thanks for the fast reply's!!!! I just found it kind of odd because looking at google maps, this fire was just a couple of minuets from city limits.... but I know CFD has stopped sending mutual aid unless specifically requested by the first in department.

And on another CFD note, There has been a tender put out for a new Mobile Command Vehicle... no word if this is going to replace the "Tri-Service" Mobile Command Vehicle or not, but CFD is getting a new one!!!

I'm sure someone else can speak better to this, but the simple cost of calling in mutual aid makes it a last resort option. Just because CFD is close, doesn't make it the best option for Rockyview - they have plenty of crews that are relatively close.

Question

Obviously I am new to the site but would someone tell me what CFD communications means by the term "red truck"?

In listening to the tape of Chicage Communications on the 3-11 fire on 12-22-10, I hear the dispatcher designating a unit as the "red truck"

Two things here....

One - this is for Calgary Fire Department in Calgary, Alberta, Canada - not the Chicago Fire Department of Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Two - what you probably heard was a discussion about a "RIT" truck. Rapid Intervention Teams are fire crews specifically designated to stand by and, if necessary, rescue the firefighters who are inside a structure fire. They utilize special tactics and equipment to get downed firefighters out as swiftly as possible.
