From what I understand, you'll probably hear alot more things like this going forward...

Yeah... There was a box alarm in 20's area yesterday, they put a Baltimore County Fireboat on the call. I have heard it in the past but it kind of rarity to hear Balt County Boats dispatched usually Baltimore City.

I'd heard Boats come across from BCounty over the years but it's rare. On occasion, you'd even hear Queen Anne's boats and even less frequently - Kent County boats.

I suspect, now that the County has come out of the dark age with CAD (dated back to the 90's at least), I think there is more data now shared between CAD systems in some way and CAD can automatically pick up some out of county units based on both their status and now just being in CAD. On the old system, it was more manual.

And since CAD now does things based on distance/travel time to include vehicle locators, dispatches will be different like this....

Not sure how the responders are handling it but when PG implemented vehicle locator / location based dispatching a few years ago, the volunteers were pretty unhappy about it (the Fire Service hates change). Eventually, as with everything new, it all settled down after a while (and folks realized things weren't going back to the way it was).

Humor me a minute. How efficient is an air unit that carries dreager bottles going to help a jurisdiction that uses msa? Yes I know they have interoperable fill ports now but still...

I've noticed dispatchers have been referring to response channels as "Talkgropup Bravo" or Talkgroup Charlie," etc., and not as previously expressed as simply "Bravo" or "Charlie."

Also, were the old map coordinates derived from ADC map books?

Heard that today also -- I can only assume they are following some directive "as provided" and this (too) will change to something more normal soon... On the other hand, it might be something needed to reduce confusion with more unusual units responding on automatic mutual aid... dunno.

Yes

Listen to PG for a bit and then ask yourself who the AAFD ops chief is and quite a bit of your questions about recent changes will be answered.

Not too long ago, the county fire department was upgrading to iPads for mobile data (which I though was a bad idea considering iPads / Apple products are not ruggedized - ask me how I know) - not sure if that actually happened. I think Infor Enroute Mobile is a Windows based solution (it's an app available on the MS store,) so did the county switch back to Windows laptops / mobile devices? I'm assuming that call data is now sent via Enroute CAD to mobile devices in the apparatus.

Still iPads, now using web based presentation of CAD. Got my first experience Wednesday night as a right front seat user, and I'm not yet a fan.

Been trying to map out the new Box areas in the Pasadena area. I primarily wanted to do 11, 13, 20, & 30 stations but have spread out some.

I might try out try of my skills in ArcGIS if I can remember how to ;)

If anyone has a copy of the new box areas in the Pasadena area, I'd love to see it!

'Oly crap! City Airflex 1 dispatched to a fire in Mayo (south of Annapolis)!

Cancelled since Squad 38 was already there...

I wonder if Air Wagon 1 is out of service and that is why the City Air Flex's are kept being dispatched? A couple months ago, I thought it was kept at Station 20 but before it was always kept at logistics.

There was a time that they had to get an operator/driver in from the shore after hours.... not sure if that has changed. Generally, the county use a squad for cascade service unless it becomes a major event.

AACoFD Posted this on Facebook. There are also some photos of Fire Alarm Center on it too.

At 3 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30th the Anne Arundel County Fire and Police Departments successfully transitioned to a new Computer Aided Dispatch system (CAD). The new system replaced an existing system that had been in use since the 1990s.

The transition culminated two years of work by members of the fire and police departments, the County Office of Information Technology and the vendor, Infor.

The new CAD brings many technological improvements for the fire department including the use of Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL). The old CAD system selected units for response based on geographic box areas and fire station locations. With AVL, units are selected for response by their travel time to a specific address. This increases efficiency by automatically selecting the closest units for a call. Previously firefighters and paramedics would have to recognize that they were closer to a call than the dispatched unit and identify themselves as being closer.

The new CAD also uses more advanced mapping. For example, the new system quickly identifies locations that are more than 1000 feet from a fire hydrant and adjusts response recommendations to incorporate tankers into fire responses to ensure an adequate supply of water for firefighting.

Earlier today, Fire Alarm went on Conditions Red and Yellow. No tones. Units to monitor Alpha by Portable Radios.

Does anyone have any idea what Condition Orange is? Heard that for the first time a couple days ago too.

I have still heard units volunteer to be put on calls because they are closer to the call, which I thought was part of the new dispatch process based on vehicle locations.

Fire Alarm agreed with those add on assignments and confirmed the reassignments to other units.

Was not paying attention to system status at those times, so location function could have been out.
