Does anyone know how extensively (if at all) the 800 ITac channels are being used by the CharMeck agencies? If so who is using them and are they using repeaters or simplex. The only use I've heard in the area is in Concord near Concord Mills, none in Meck county.

Rarely

The real issue with the use of the ITAC channels is that the vast majority of people that use the radios don't even know what those 'tac' channels are, much less what they are for or 'how to use them'. As mentioned earlier, CLT fire does use them downtown, but also uses a dedicated vehicle repeater located in the batallion chiefs car (Bat 1 I beleive). So, it really is more of a training issue then lack of use.

just my $0.02

As a matter of fact I was sitting in the cell phone lot at the Charlotte airport last evening and I heard some agency, not sure who, using ITAC 4 with a pl of 156.7. It was a repeater and it sounded like a local pd but I didn't listen long enough to be able to tell who it was.

I'm not 100% sure but I think ITAC 4 is what the Concord PD uses sometimes. Good feedback though. I'll keep listening to see what pops up.

I've never been able to assertain the location, but I occasionally hear law enforcement units checking in on channel 4 for what sounds like off-duty security assignments. The signal strengths are fairly good here in northern Lancaster County, which makes me presume it might be Carolina Place Mall.

Keep in mind that, during the rebanding transition, there will actually be two sets of 800 ITAC channels ... the original channels in the 866-868 band, and the new set 15 MHz lower. One option I've read on another list is to program both sets of ITAC channels in the radios during the transition ... if a particular radio has enough memory available.

A poster on that same list also mentioned that the FCC is currently issuing some 800 ITAC repeater licenses with the emissions bandwidth deginated as narrowband , contrary to the guidelines in the national interoperability plan. That could create some communications problems for multi-agency use of an ITAC repeater.

Undisclosed urban location.
I remember seeing somewhere that sometimes the 800 ITAC channels are used for special events.
Don't know why with all the tg's allocated for special events.
Jeff, you could very well be right, they would not be wanting to tie up a tg with off- duty traffic.

Jeff,

Most of the stuff I've heard at Carolina Place Mall is on 464.325 and 463.925. I think Security is on 464.325. I'm closer to the mall here at home and I don't get anything on ITAC4 here. I know I've heard simplex on the ITAC freqs before but this was the first I'd heard a base repeater.

I'll have to keep listening and see if I hear it anywhere else around town.

CFD has the capability to use National atc 1-4 on the newest radio template although they are rarely used even in uptown.
