I've been hearing a lot of "Border X" units working in Southern California the last couple of months.

Any idea what these units are? I've heard them on multiple channels across multiple areas.

If it’s like all the other divisions, Border XX is an officer assigned to the Border Division itself and not to a specific area office. Usually an administrative function but might also be a specialty assignment that serves the whole division and not a specific area office.

Right, I'm familiar. Same with the Border King units, Border 800 units, etc.

It's what their function is that I'm curious about. They are clearly performing enforcement functions based on radio traffic, so it's not administrative.

Curious if it's some sort of task force or something.

Might be related to deployment of CHP "crime suppression teams"

The CHP crime suppression teams will be deployed to six major cities and regions in the state: San Diego, Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Central Valley, Sacramento, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

I believe the Border King unit(s) are the K-9, as I heard one respond on the air with his partner barking in the background. Also, another Border (or divisional) unit's tasks are commercial transport enforcement. The pick-ups units with camper shells that usually have large truck pulled over on the side of the road or are they are stationed at the scales. At least this is what I have observed.

Correct on the Border King units, though not all BK units carry canines, some are in support roles to those who do.
