Hello,

I'm trying to put together a complete list for the state of Pennsylvania of Fire/EMS station ID numbers or numbering system for all counties in the state. Most of the information in the database is current, but for alot of counties i find there are alot of information missing. I' also looking for stations and departments that are private and not on the county system but is a dept in the county. I live in Erie, PA so this is a complete update of everything

This is what each respective county's wiki pages are for. Years of many different contributors' time and research. Would be impossible to have up-to-the-minute accurate info for all 67 counties in the state

Also- just because 1 county uses station #'s for EMS and Police doesn't mean --every-- county uses station #'s for EMS and Police. In Fayette- Only Fire has Station #'s. Unit ID is based on the Station # followed by designator so its known what the apparatus is. EMS- Dept Name plus Truck #. Police- Dept Name + either vehicle # or badge # or OIC.
Same applies to radio id's. Some places have a very detailed Radio ID plan, some are grouped in small continuous blocks and scattered all over, others are just sequentially assigned. so 2 apparatus from one station may have ID's that have no semblence together. And is most likely the reason there isn't a "centralized" list of all that data.

I think my county is mostly correct but I refuse to use the 1960’s garbage numbering system forced on us 15-20 years ago, I still use the older and better systems, so I haven’t really looked at it lately. It probably does need updating since over the last few years there’s been a few mergers and companies that went 10-7. But….

Some County radio Admins are very (TOO) quick to reassign legacy numbers to new or (more likely) newly merged/consolidated multiple station "united" entities.

Huge mistake, IMHO....best lo let at leasst 5 - 10 years before reassigning numbers.

Too many old dogs still barking!

Not sure if I should put this here or start a new thread.

I’ve gone down a rabbit hole and now I’m curious. Does anyone have the old Montgomery County fire station numbers?

Also interested in the old Montco since all I remember are the current.

And yes, my county had no layover in changing. Recycled almost all of the same numbering. Only around half used the old system and the rest had a better more sensible set of numbering. But of the ones that did use it I don’t know how it didn’t turn into chaos. One station went from 145 to 144 a nearby station went from 170 to…. 145. Another went from 128 to 166 while a department they run mutual aid with went from the better numbering system to their new numbers, yep. 128. Dumb.
Even worse with the old way we could hear a number and know the town and apparatus/officer it would be. Nice and easy. Under the genius new way a working fire now has Engine 1, Engine 1, Engine 1 on scene, Ladder 1 and Ladder 1 is there. Rescue 1 on scene. Rescue 1 on the way for RIT. Chief 1 will be command and Chief 1 interior command. See Chief 1 at accountability. Major step backwards. There’s a reason I keep the old numbering alive.

Yep! The excuse I always heard was it was to make things simpler for the field units and for the comm center. It’s still a poop show. The field units never had any problems with how it was. Yet 15 or more years later and the comm center still can’t get things right. Should’ve left it alone.

If people followed the proper protocols set forth when we switched to P25, there would be none of this. Unfortunately it happens on both ends of the radio but a good chunk of people do follow the method. But that's off topic.

You know what guys i worded that inquiry all too wrong. What i meant to say is i am "updating" my PA Fire and EMS List into which i was inquiring about. I should have worded it like this: I am looking for Fire & EMS Stations and Apparatus Assignments. I know not every county in each state has a countywide numbering system. That's my bad, i know better I'm not an FNG I've been doing this for awhile. Im just looking to add private stations if there are any left
Anyways, To those of you that read this, are there any steel mill, power plants, refineries or industrial fire or ems departments in your area and if so do you or have you caught what type of apparatus and any identifying markings. For ex: US Steel Mon Valley Works #322 runs an an active fire dept but they don't correspond with the county
Rescue 102 - 200? Ford F-550
Engine 203 - 1991 KME
Truck 205 - 2009 Pierce Arrow
Rescue 302 - 200? Freightliner
Rescue ??? - 1994 Freightliner
There's another dept i believe up in cheswick has a 3 digit # but their Engine just says engine 2
When i used to travel with an industrial service company we did a job for a Oil Refinery IMTT I believe it was near bayone. they ran a run dept they had like 15 trucks all different some same numbers.
