es93546's wife here. He is ill and I have to post for him. He says that the R5 TAC4 (166.55) on the wiki page is correct. He hasn't been able to update the wiki and I'm not sure if he ever will. He has the 2020 R5 frequency guide, but not the 2021. He lost contact with the source of those guides and hasn't tracked that source down, so he is not sure he can get another. This makes him sad as he has every year of these since about 1992 when they first came out. He got them at work till he retired & has had a source for them since retirement.

yup
On the WildCAD for Cleveland NF today ... ' VJS PT25 TY6 engine at Viejas IR '

I dont remember seeing that listed before

IR = indian reservation

PT = patrol (staffed by 1 person]

TY 6 = type 6 = 250 gallon tank of water

VJS = Viejas Reservation FD near Alpine from https://firescope.caloes.ca.gov/Governance/Group Documents/MACS-ID-Agency-List.pdf

( iirc BIA fire unit agency IDs end with an A ... maybe thats only on the federal agency lists ... or more likely ... it is a tribal engine and not a BIA engine ]

in any case maybe VJS PT25 will be heard on the Cleveland NF radio nets

I wonder why that unit is listed but other nearby units are not? Viejas Res FD is probably dispatched by Heartland Dispatch or Cal Fire. But none of the other units show up on the WildCAD. Is it possible that Viejas Reservation FD is dispatched by 2 different agencies? The wildland side by Cleveland NF ; and the structural / EMS side is dispatched by Cal Fire or Heartland?

(lol this was supposed to be a simple 15 second post that turned into a 15 minute research project]

USFS Electronic Tech "Com 27" just went active and his heading up to a electronics site in CNF. This is a good time to listen to CNF frequencies for system changes or other good info.

On Region 5 Tac 5 167.1125 MHz there is a lot of very strong, encrypted P25 with NAC 167 and ID code 3275545 so possibly the Eff-Bee-Eye La office.

Did you by any chance catch the input? Looking at my file it was a direct Freq. But will look into it further.

I think it was simplex as signal strength varied too muc to be a repeater. Let me know what you discover!

Does anyone agree that the ID code suggests the LA Field Office folks? I mainly listen to Forestry but this annoying P25 signal awoke my curiosity.

327xxxx does point to the Los Angeles Field Office and that freq/nac has been observed for atleast few years now in the LA region

Thanks! Some searches show that the USCG also has this frequency in their lineup. Apparently the NTIA didn't assign the frequency exclusively to USFS for R5 Tac5

Not much anymore is exclusive - some frequencies yes, but most are shared and assigned by region/state, figuring away from coast etc

some still notable exclusives
167.5625 - FBI
most of the USSS
409.9375 - USPS
