• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Color of radios do you have a personal preference when a radio is black or yellow

All of our XTS5000rs are black, but everyone has a different colored bezel. Mine is reflective blue.

I've seen a few apx radios that are black but have a yellow bezel. But if you can afford a $4000 radio, kudos to you lol. I wouldn't buy one unless I got like a really sweet deal, but that's too good to be true.

Oh no, it's my issued radio. I don't own it, the Federal Government does.

I prefer black too but my XTS 5000 has a blue bezel.
A pink one would certainly be a little hard to loose, you think? It wouldn't be my first choice, but I wouldn't refuse one if given to me...

Not mine, but you reminded me of this!:

Since I see no specific models of amateur radio mentioned and since most of the radios mentioned are commercial, not amateur, I've moved this thread to a more appropriate forum.

Honestly I would have a hard time with that pink moto on my belt lol. Thank god for black leather cases, or you'll probably get some unwanted attention lol.

While i live in the United States and i have never run across one, i read somewhere about HT750s and 1250s that were blue that were sold in Canada that were Industry Canada certified, and i believe they were used in the petrolium industry and that some of the railroads there used them. They were really nice looking. If i can find the pictures of them ill post them up.

But to answer the OP's question id have to go with black, although i have seen a 2 tone white and black XTS that looked awesome enough for me to consider painting one of mine like that. Also i have seen some olive drab colored radios that looked awesome too.

Motorola only makes for the XTS3000 and 5000 a yellow and black, any other color is a paint job. There is a few clear models out that were made for in house testing for Motorola engineers

My dept has both VHF and UHF radios so I use the different colors to tell the difference between the band.

A large dept near me switched to all yellow because they kept loosing units, they say missing radios and repair costs have gone down after switching.

While all the radios the company (oilfield surveying) I work for are black, most of the crew chiefs wrap the antennas of our chainmen's radios with pink flagging. Makes them much easier to find when they drop them in the bush or in the snow.

After a two day search to find a handheld that fell off my belt while trekking through a seven hundred acre lot, I would prefer yellow are even orange. Sure would have made the job easier. After I gave up and was headed back to my starting point, I found it. Saved by the Sun. I didn't see it when I looked the first time because it was in the shade. Had it been yellow, orange, or yes even pink, I probably would have spotted it right away. I prefer a black or dark brown holster but when it falls out I prefer the bright radio. I also like the camo. radios but you know what would happen if one of those got dropped. I had a friend who found one he had dropped with a bush-hog. It was not a pretty site.
