Today the Uniden was silent, except for the Muscogee County Jail. I tried everything I could think of to no avail. Finally, at 3:00pm a dispatcher came on and instructed all Fire and EMS to return to the "old" system. The Fire and EMS traffic then immediatley resumed.

Columbus Police frequencies are still silent, Does anyone have any information on what is going on?

Thanks.

I called the local Motorola supplier and CPD has moved to all digital in the last few days. I wasn't picking anything up because they apparently have moved to new Group-ID's with the switch over to digital.

I'm weeding my way through the new Groups now. If anyone has a ready-made list, that would be great.

Columbus is migrating from their old SmartNet 3A2B system to their new SmartZone BC26 system. The new system will operate mixed mode (both digital and analog depending on the talkgroup). It may be interesting to some of you to note that the "new" Columbus BC26 system has been on the air for better than two years now and that LaGrange/Troup County has been using BC26 for years. Yes, that is correct, BC26 covers Muscogee, Harris, and Troup counties. Happy scanning!

Will the Pro-106 automatically monitor analog/digital mix or do I need to program something different (I use WIN500 and RR database download)?

I have also found that if you are going to be in Columbus during the week you need to Lock Out or Delete the School Talkgroups, unless you are into listening to “My bus is broke down, where does that new kid live, etc”. Some Utilities Talkgroups can also keep your scanner busy.

I did hear something interesting other day listening to Ft Benning. Heard a Training Instructor come on the radio and say very sarcastically “I’ve got a “boo-boo” over here, send a medic”. Ah, the memories of that attitude. But you can only take so much of “Range Control, I need my opening code”!

Wow, this PRO-106 has opened up my scanning again. I got left behind with my old PRO-92. I guess I’m good until everyone goes encrypted!!!!!

Happy scanning,

I've entered the new Control Frequencies (852.0875, 852.1125, 852.3750, 854.4375) into the existing system for Columbus, but I'm still getting mostly silence.

I have identified several new Talkgroups that seem to be the digital ones (32816, 32784, 33456, 32848, 32912, 32880, 33872), but that traffic is still very few and far between. I SHOULD be able to find any and all traffic using the right Control Freqs on SEARCH mode (I'm using a BCD396XT). But still all I get is silence, with some occasional analog traffic.

One interesting note is that when the digital Groups display (the new ones above), the Uniden displays "P25" followed by "LNK". And yet I have this programmed as a Motorola system, (which it supposedly is).

Any thoughts?

852.087500
852.112500
852.375000
854.437500
855.387500
857.337500
854.087500

Thanks for defining those Groups. I read up on SmartZone today on found where you can have a max of four control channels per site. I created a new site with just the four new control channels and everything started to work. Finally!

I've run across some additional Talkgroups as well. Not sure what they are yet.

Columbus / Lagrange Troup BC26h-003

License Search Error

Above link shows two FCC Licenses for Columbus Consolodated Govt.

I heard Columbus PD digital for the first time on Lagrange/Troup BC25h-003 (site 3) which is located on the north side of Columbus.

I heard EMS on the current analog system.

If I can find the FCC license info for Lagrange-BC26h-003 I'll post it.

Do you happen to know if they are planning to encrypt?

Of course I know. The answer is yes, but only the stuff that has always been encrypted. There are only a small number of radios in the fleet that can take a key. Pretty much only the drug guys have these radios. There are no plans to encrypt the PD dispatches or anything like that.

Thanks Barry appreciate the info. I just bought a PSR-500 and didn't want it to become "obsolete" overnight.
