To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So recently I bought a APX4000 UHF 1 knob version and got the APX CPS R25. I plugged the radio to my computer but my computer(windows10) can't read it. The device manager gives error code 43. I used the authentic motorola cable(PMKN4012B) to connect the radio. Everything seems fine. I don't know where's the problem. I tried reset my computer and also tried on another computer which is older. It still gives me the same error code(also on the old one). Does anyone here have experienced similar situation? Pls help

Pretty generic Windows error there with the 43. Might go back to MOL and get the standalone USB driver for APX (APXUSBSetup v14), there is a chance it did not install properly.

Does your computer recognize it as an IP device? If you have wi-fi on, turn it off on your computer. If you do have a good IP connection, can you ping the IP address ? Does your radio have scan & is it turned on? If so, turn it off. Sometimes I've had trouble reading APX4Ks w/ scan on.

I followed your step. The computer doesn't recognize it as an IP address. It sees at "Unknown USB device(Device descriptor Request failure)" I don't think the scan is on because a lot of function of this radio hasn't been turned on yet. I still need to use CPS to turn it on

Okay Thanks. V14 sounds kinda old, the version of the firmware of my radio is R21.66, which is pretty new. Do you think it's gonna work? And for some reason I don't find the APX USBsetup V14 on MOL. Do you have a link for it? Thanks

So you have a driver issue. Marcotor is right about the standalone driver (V14 is the driver version). Sometimes I just install the APX Tuner software - it usually corrects the driver error. Good Luck!

I just found the link to V14 driver in another post. I installed it and it doesn't work. Probably because the firmware of my radio is too new. It's R 21.66

Does the radio have bluetooth enabled? Can you talk to it through bluetooth? I've come across several radios before where you can't talk to it with the cable because the accessory port has gone bad.

bluetooth is not. Many functions are not enabled yet. I need CPS to turn them on

Going through with basic troubleshooting. Do you have another radio you can try to read to ensure you don't have a bad cable? Does the device show up in "other devices" in device manager? Have you tried right clicking on said "unknown device" and manually updating the driver? Have you tried a different cable? Try turning off your firewall and see if that works.

Like I said before, you most likely have a bad accessory port on the radio. It happens. I'd send it back to whatever broken/stolen radio ebay dealer you got it from and get your money back.

This is the only motorola radio I have. I have another Anytone 878UV radio and it works fine with another cable. I don't think it shows up in "ther device". I tried updating the driver but the system says the device is at lastest version.Turning off firewall neither works. This is the only cable i got :(

The driver version has nothing to do with firmware. Something is fouled up on your computer that the driver is not working properly. Have you tried another computer?

well the APX CPS USB V14 readme file says it only supportd windows 7 and windows 8....so that could be a reason?

The USB Ethernet drivers are included with CPS. If you have a legit copy of APX CPS R25.00.00 and a genuine programming cable, you shouldn't have any issues. Try fully uninstalling and reinstalling CPS, and leave the cable unplugged when doing so. You might also try a different USB port. If none of that fixes your issue, try another computer as @n3obl suggested.

You should see this driver listed in Programs and Features:

i checked the motorola folder. This file exists
Is the driver actually installed, though? Being "in the motorola folder" doesn't mean it's installed. Check Apps and Features or Programs and Features, and make sure the driver is installed correctly.

Have you tried plugging the cable into other USB ports? Are you using a USB hub, or plugged directly into the PC/laptop?

This file exists. But for some reason, the version of mine is (09/27/2011 6.1.7065). The date looks very old. I tried plugging through both USB 2.0 hub and the USB 3.0 port on my laptop. Both don't work

It's very weird. I can see it in apps & features but I can't actually find it in the folder
