    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

CP200 Analog - PL Code Programming Issue

Hello,

I am running into some issues when programming my CP200's. I have 8 frequencies licensed with the FCC and want to take full advantage of the 16 channels on the radios. I have programmed separate CTCSS tones, but I seem to be walking over the channel that has the same frequency (despite it having a different tone). I was talking with a friend and he could not figure out why this would be happening. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

The PL tone is nothing more than a way to prevent interference or having to hear unwanted transmissions on your channel. If you remove the PL and leave the radio in CSQ, all transmissions, including ones with PL tones, will be heard. So you can put a PL on for transmit and receive but someone on CSQ will still hear everything and chances are you might be stepping on someone if it's a busy channel. It's really more suited for repeaters.

It doesn't work that way. There are still two transmissions taking place on the same frequency, tone or not, and it's going to cause a ton of interference. The only way around this is to use Mototrbo so that two timeslots can be in use on the same frequency. You can't do that on non-D model 200s, and probably not without modifying your license.
