I'd agree with that, it was a bit of a RMFAOL moment when Don and others claimed Whistler had the first DMR scanner, they all got a bit teary in the Whistler forum when I disagreed.
Hello,

Being on the embedded software side of things, I would not be surprised if both companies started DMR development about the same time. Development on this scale is not an overnight process. There could be some jockeying by both companies reacting to the actions of the other.

I do wonder if Whistler's original plan was to announce the improved TRX-1/TRX-2 with DMR at Hamvention. The "first" DMR scanner released at the end of June. When Uniden announced DMR on an existing product, that might be available sooner, Whistler decided to release DMR on their existing product. It is relatively "easy" to port a subset of the new DMR functionality over to the existing platform and get it through QA quickly.

I am also surprised that Whistler announced NXDN some four to seven months ahead of release, but it might be a way to differentiate the new product with the existing product after they decided to add DMR to the existing product. Four to seven months seems a reasonable time frame to develop NXDN functionality, which means the competition could release NXDN at the same time if their product still has flash space left

I do not fully understand marketing, as in my mind, it will make little difference in a few months when products are fully released. I buy equipment based on it working and filling a need, rather than being "first to market" or "me too".

We intentionally stop on the DMR traffic so that you can have time to write down mode (CON/CAP/DMR/DT3), color, slot, etc. These elements are important for final programming into a DMR mode channel (DMR One Frequency or MotoTRBO).

I see your point, but could there be an option to resume after x seconds where x could be chosen, there are times when working or driving that I just want to search and listen without having to touch the scanner.

Now have DMR on one 536 and one 436. Still just using search and conventional scan mode. Have to lock out quite a bit of stuff. However, lots of DMR activity around here. Long Beach Transit on DMR and that alone is really busy. Lots of other stuff in Orange County. Audio both on 536HP and 436HP sounds great. This is very nice. The potential is great. Never used the AR-DV1 much. This will be very different. Have 436HP chatting away on DMR here in a Starbucks.

Actually, I am sure that Whistler got caught off guard by our announcement. I was surprised that they had DMR ready so soon, but in looking at it, it is really more pre than our pre-release.

Either way, I'm glad Whistler bought GRE's IP so that you can keep each other on your toes! Here's to more races to add features! :)

Say, can you add D-STAR, too? Pretty sure that would be cheaper than DMR ...

I'm successfully decoding my local DMR ham repeater using DMR Single Channel. Given only a frequency, the scanner is providing me with color code, timeslot and talkgroup ID, which is great.

Do we need to enable anything special to see the Talkgroup ID??

I have several single frequency DMR users nearby, and only thing I see on the display is the CC and Slot info. Nothing on TG.

For reference I am entering the frequency by direct entry quick search.

Thanks everyone in advance.

Has to be programmed as a trunk system

Short Video of BCD536HP scanning DMR One-Frequency Systems

Here is a short 2 min 30 sec video I shot this afternoon of my BCD536HP scanning and receiving DMR One-Frequency Systems. I programmed in four local amateur radio repeaters in the Tarrant County, Texas area. Each repeater is a DMR One-Frequency System. I already knew the Color Codes, so I hard coded those in. I added one Department to each system and placed four known Talkgroups in each system's single Department. I'm too lazy to add the others as programming manually is a pain! But I added TGID 1 Worldwide, TGID 2 Local / Metro, TGID 3 North America, and TGID 3148 Texas Startewide. I abbreviated the names though, because programming manually is a pain. For each system I turned Search IDs to ON so it will scan both the known TGIDs I added and the unknown ones it finds. It works fairly well, though it is slow to scan the DMR One-Frequency Systems as opposed to the extremely fast scanning of the same repeaters I added to a single Conventional System. I have noticed that a few of the TGIDs it has discovered through Search ID seem to be bogus as I cannot locate them in the DMR-MARC database, but that could be because they were never added to the database. However, I keep getting TGID 8888 displayed rather than TGID 3 for North America when it appears to be TGID 3 North America that is being used. But it might not be TGID 3 NA since my TYT MD-380 is not identifying the TGID either, although I've heard callers say they were on "North America". So who knows...

In the video it is TGID 3 North America that is being received, but I labelled it as simply NA.

When entering a Capacity Plus or Connect Plus site, does each frequency need to be entered one or twice, once for each LCN?

Like this:
471.6500, LCN 1
471.6500, LCN 2
472.5250, LCN 3
472.5250, LCN 4
472.7875, LCN 5
472.7875, LCN 6
Or this:
471.6500, LCN 1
472.5250, LCN 3
472.7875, LCN 5

I wonder if it's possible that the 436 and 536 have slightly different firmware? For the life of me I can't get UID to display in DMR One Frequency System mode. But there it is in living color on W5JCK's YouTube video. Hrm.
