Thanks bhogg. But I'm still confused as to why Sentinel would give me the option to not only select a color code, but also to select the color code search. It seems that if I'm given the color code search option, the radio would detect same.
That's not necessarily the case, depending on your area.

Here in my Metro area, I'm finding that a number of the business DMR frequencies are licensed to multiple users in my county. So, for one specific frequency, if set to 'color code search', I may see three or more color code values on a given frequency. This is also making it hard to map out a couple of suspected systems that are not in the database, but are licensed for trunked system operation. Some of the frequencies for Southwest Airlines, which shows to have a trunked system at Love Field, are also licensed for trunked operation at a Kohl's distribution warehouse. I'm about halfway between the two. It does complicate things a bit.

Effectively, "color code search" means "accept all color codes", while setting a particular color code will accept only that color code. I guess it's analogous to having a known CTCSS tone or having none.

Capacity Plus and Connect Plus videos

I've been trying to wrap my head around DMR, specifically Capacity Plus and Connect Plus. Fortunately, I was able to find two YouTube videos that provide a quick overview of what all this tech talk means. They might help you, too. They don't go into a lot of technical stuff like slots, color codes, etc, but do explain the concept of the two types of systems, including some explanation of the 'rest channel'.

Capacity Plus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDZ9PLZ9Ito
Connect Plus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gle0lJ9t3e0

These two videos are professionally made, (perhaps for Motorola?), and helped me understand the concepts involved. I hope they help you, too.

Suggestion:

Under NAC/Color Code in Sentinal - Direct Code Entry option - would be a heck of a lot easier than scrolling for the codes.

I am also receiving PDV Wireless from Commerce TX - That didn't happen on the previous versions.

Good work!

That would actually make sense. A CSQ of sorts. I guess the way it is named threw me off. Thanks guys for all of your responses.

Does the 436 report the Slot information? I never see it on the screen or in the BuTel logger.

Password not working?

I downloaded RC2 zip file. When Windows tries to extract the zipped file, it asks for the password. I entered the password included in the RC2 readme file, and get an error that the password is incorrect. The font in the readme file is an "all caps" font, so is the password case sensitive? What am I doing wrong/missing? I have been reading threads on this for the past 2 hours doing research on if I want to do the upgrade. Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

The password is definitely case sensitive. Perhaps try reading the readme file in another program like Notepad, Wordpad, or Word, or perhaps try changing the font.

Looking for some DMR Tier 3 logs to sanity check against. Here are the systems known in RadioReference:

Citation Communications http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8335
Harris County Board of Education http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8186
Alliant Energy DMR http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8697
MJM Electric Cooperative http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=7376
North Central Correctional Facility http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8401
Mount Pleasant Prison http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8147
Newton Correctional Facility http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8412
Iowa Medical & Classification Center http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8546
Anamosa State Penitentiary http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8146
Fort Madison Prison http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8057
Clarinda Prison http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8100
Mitchellville Prison http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8135
Fort Dodge Prison http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8136
Lower Merion Township http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8407
Carroll County Public Safety http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8625
Grant County Public Utilities http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=1020

Also, if you are near one of these Hytera XPT systems, logs would be useful:
Rentschler Stadium - DMR http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8511
Communications Etc. (Hytera North) http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8179
Inova Fairfax Hospital http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=8636

If you can make a log of any of these, here is how:

1. Power on while pressing AVOID.
2. Set up the system and scan only that system.
3. MENU --> Settings --> Set Debug and set it to save to SD card.
4. Monitor the system for a while (5 minutes or so).
5. MENU --> Settings --> Set Debug to Off.

The log file will be in the scanner's DEBUG folder.

Those videos are really well done. The way I explain it to some of my other ham friends that have also embraced DMR recently:

  • Capacity Plus - A digital LTR system. No control channel
  • Connect Plus - A 'Phase-II' trunk system for businesses. Has a control channel (I also point out the audio format is different than Phase-II).

Hello,

I have a JetBlue DMR Tier 3 System nearby at Logan Airport (Boston, MA) that I have mapped out. I will do some logging although it is not the strongest signal.

I also know that Marcus Communications has at least a three site Hytera Tier 3 System around the Hartford Area in CT. I do not have complete system information on this system.

I saw an interesting problem yesterday on a Cap+ system. (I'm using Prerelease 2.) An unencrypted user was talking, and the scanner was monitoring the talkgroup without a problem. During the conversation, an encrypted talkgroup became active. The 436 cut the audio off of the clear user and "ENC" was seen on the display (it did not switch to the encrypted talkgroup).

This was the first time I saw this specific problem, but I'm still seeing quite a few missed calls on Cap+. The system I'm monitoring cycles the rest channel very rapidly sometimes, and the rest channel changes even when there are no transmissions on the system - I don't know if this makes a difference in the scanner's ability to track correctly. I'm monitoring site 1 of this system (and have confirmed that there is no LCN 3):

Communication Specialists (Capacity Plus Multi Site) Trunking System, Various, Virginia - Scanner Frequencies

Thanks,
Dave
