BCD396T/BC996T: Do I have a BCD996T or a BCD996p2?

Hi, quick question. I just bought a BCD996T on ebay, and when I turn it on, the welcome screen says BCD996p2. Is this something that the previous owner may have programmed it to say during startup? The nameplate says BCD996T. Thank you in advance!

That's two models prior to the current 996P2. It was introduced back in 2006. The 996XT came out in 2009. The current model, 996P2, first appeared in 2015. I hope you did not overpay too much, and can get your money refunded.

Unfortunately, that unit cannot monitor the system & talkgroups used by Arlington's agencies.

Correct. I used to have an SDS100 and a TRX-1 but even those were basically expensive boat anchors after the city switched to their new system. I gave up and sold them, but now, just like so many others, I regret it and need to scan something, anything.

i agree with post#2. 996p2 was read at some point. then 996t was written to (probably to clear out before selling) without changing the welcome screen.
