Does the 996P2 have a "Manual" button? (how to view last object scanner stopped on)

Hi all -

My GREs have a "Manual" button I can press if I wish to return to an object the scanner just recently stopped on but has started to scan again. Pressing the "Manual" button takes you to the last object the scanner had stopped on.

Does the BCD996P2 have a button or button press combo that does this?

No it does not. Once it's continued from stopping, there's no way to stop and go back to what it stopped on.

The best way to accomplish this, is use programming software which logs activity so you can see what it stopped on, but there is still no way to go back

It has a HOLD button, which holds it on the active channel. That is what the manual button does on scanners that have them.

If any of them go back and hold on the last channel after it has resumed scanning, I am not aware of that.

I will have to try that on my GRE radios.
Interesting feature. I presume it won't work if the radio picks something up, so you would have to be quick about it.

Thanks KMA371 and marksmith.

Noted about the logging software. It's nice being able to do it with a quick button press though.

On the GREs I use "Pause" to hold a channel and "Manual" to retrieve one that was last hit before the scanner acquires another object.

Yes, you have to press the "Manual" button before the GRE stops on another object. I use that feature a lot. It helped solve a few "what the heck was that?" moments.

The older model BCD396t did have a recall button, you can use your BCD996P2 connect to a computer and Freescan and Log transmissions or Proscan or Butel

Roger that. I guess the 996P2 and similar models clear out that memory location once it resumes scanning.

Learn something new every day. Never knew the GRE radios would pull up the last channel like that.

I guess I replaced that button with several pc's and continuous running Unitrunker software, logging all activity on several systems. I do it mostly to track unit id's but it works well for the what the heck was thst moment as well.

Uniden has solved that issue in their home patrol, 436 and 536 radios by having the radio continuously record activity so you can replay the last few minutes of activity, or record it so you can play everything back.

I find myself hitting replay frequently. Also, you can hit the record button and it includes the last few minutes in the recording, so you can wait and decide whether to record. Great options.

If you are fast enough or have an extended pause and setting next to your BCD996P2, you can hit the HOLD button to stop scanning, then notice the long pointing arrow direction! You can rotate the FUNCTION button in the opposite direction which will show the last Frequencies scanned! Of course you would have had to have caught a glimpse at the numbers to know what you wanted to see!!!!!!!!!

But the Real answer to Post #1 is no!

That is how the GREs worked. Each method has advantages.

With the GRE method, you could hit MANUAL and go back to the last active channel, but it made skipping ahead many channels a pain in the rear. (when you hit Manual, it would start scanning, but would return to the same channel unless a new one was active)

With the Uniden method, you can quickly skip channels, but cannot jump back to the last channel that had activity.

FUNC and scroll scrolls Systems.

The scroll knob alone scrolls Channels.

Appreciate it. The Uniden is sure a different animal than the GRE.

One of the best differences is that Uniden has Number Tags.

With them, you can quickly get to a specific channel, assuming you have number tags assigned.

If scanning, press hold, to stop scanning.
Press the system number tag, then the decimal key, then the channel number tag, and then the Menu key, go to go to that channel.

For example,
Hold
1
.
1
Menu
Will take me to System 1, channel 1. From there I can scroll to other channels like usual.

You can skip the system number, if you're already in the system with the channel you're wanting.

I find the Whistlers frustrating when trying to get to a specific channel, at least when there are lots of them enabled in the scan lists.

To go to any object directly with a GRE, simply press "Manual", enter the channel number via the keypad, and press "Enter".
