Let’s go back to the beginning. This thread. New Jersey Drone sightings and radio traffic. This was on MIRS TRS on 11/18/24. There were many many similar transmissions. Not so much any more. This is a BOLO audio file. Credit Broadcastify.

Drones probably have some sort of camera that sends a video stream, so that would be it's only transmit source. So are they using a WiFi point to point connection at either 2,4GHz or 5GHz for the camera as well as controlling the drone or some other unique frequency? To be able to locate a transmitter you would need to triangulate using several receiver locations and hope that they do not use any frequency hopping RF links, that you can get from some cheap Baofeng type of radios.

Most hobby drones use the 2.4GHz WiFi band for flight control and the 5GHz WiFi band for video return.

If these are smaller hobby drones and they say they use mobile phone detection, that can get the distance from a cellular site to a phone and by using two or three sites can get a very precise location but not being able to do distance checking on passive WiFi listening and probably only have one single device doing it, how can they track a hobby drone?

Those bigger drones being reported being used, and looking at the Ukraine/Russian drones that can fly many miles, what kind of system must they be using to get that kind of range, both for control and get a video signal back home?

AirGuard seems to be working with hobby drones that it decodes the GPS data in the WiFi data stream from the drone.
For bigger drones using non WiFi signalling they seem to have 4 directional antennas to get a general direction to the drone, as well as a camera for optical tracking. I don't know what frequency bands it can scan. I know that there where 800MHz and 1000MHz analog video transmitters on hobby R/C aircrafts many years ago.

The NJSP have ability to identify operators. This is routinely done in the Medowlands and often heard on the NJICS. They move in on violators as easy as 123. Airspace and aircraft are federal, local ordinances are in place to support enforcement there. Dedrone has published interesting information including mention
of a database.
