Hello,

The original EL panel in my Pro-2005 scanner is almost extinct. I found doing a search here that there are replacement panels available, but they are through eBay. Since I'm already in the process of putting together an Amazon purchase, I tried as best as their crappy search engine allows and did manage to find some EL panels. However, I couldn't determine if after cutting down to size whether they would work.

Does anyone know of a specific EL panel that can be purchased through Amazon, preferably in the original light blue color, that would work?

Thank you,

Dan

Bueller?

Some of the issues with the ones I've found include the voltage, the contacts are in the middle, size and color of the panel. Without a replacement panel it's getting to the point that I might as well throw the Pro-2005 in the garbage and buy a new scanner. Which is unfortunate because aside from the display the Pro-2005 works fine.

It's my understanding that after cutting the EL panel to size the panel needs to be check for delamination. If so, you need to use shipping tape to seal the sides.

Good luck with your search.

Waited a month for a reply here and elsewhere. By that time the EL panel completely crapped out. After a buddy watched me struggling one night with a flashlight to read the display, he suggested a solution and the scanner became a 50 cal target that following weekend. So, the Pro-2005 scanner doesn't exist anymore, at least not whole. LOL

Judging by the overwhelming response to this thread, I suspect that with all the bells and whistles found on modern scanners, these old scanners --even ones modified for a faster scan rate, expanded coverage, additional stepping and SSB-- are of no interest to most people.

:( Sorry you lost out on at least getting something out of the radio before you destroyed it (you could have offered it for sale?). Seems you wanted to have it fixed now and could not wait to find something to fix it (even if a rigged fix). I would foster a guess that you and your buddy were consuming something mind altering before he convinced you to .50 cal it even though you two waited a week before lining it up in the sights. Good luck in finding a replacement! They definitely are not cheap in price (although most think quality has taken a back seat anymore). :(

I didn't lose out on anything.

Not at all. This thread was created nearly seven months ago and up until these past couple of days where I found the thread buried several pages deep into obscurity and revealed the fate of the scanner, no one in all that time addressed the topic. And once the thread bubbled back to the surface, after all those months of being forgotten, I read an unfounded assertion that I was being impatient.

That reads like someone might have consumed too many Foster's. ;)

I already own a replacement scanner, several in fact, including another Pro-2005.

 Whatever...... Factually, you 'bubbled' up a 5 month old ignored post for whatever reason (boredom?), who knows....

 Did you really think the other two members were interested in your 5 month non-response timeframe... No need to reply (I have a feeling you will anyway). Rest assured I will ignore (onward) any baiting attempts.

:) Have a nice MLK day! :)

I answered a question and provided an update to my thread. Not sure why you are trying to be argumentative.

Fine, you want to know what I think, I think at best you're a third-rate bully, but a first-rate coward. Only a bully would start with snotty comments and only a coward would pretend that they speak for others when they don't.

Rest assured I will ignore (onward) any baiting attempts.

First, anyone serious about ignoring someone doesn't need to announce their intentions. Second, I find it interesting when someone doesn't cower to you, you pretend to leave. Remember, no one asked you to reply to this thread the way you did, you did that entirely on your own. Stop trying to blame others for your actions. That's another cowardly move.

Quite frankly I don't know why you initially chose to be a jerk. I wish you would have taken the adult path, but so be it. Having said that, I'm willing to put this whole thing in the past. What say you?

And you felt the need to comment on this "ignored" thread because???

Anyway, we're done here. The radio is gone.
