Are the D zone channels current?
I remember seeing those listed about 15 years ago.

Tom,

They were put into the "Big D nationwide" channel plan in the early 80's and they are still current today.

There have been differences in the "D Zone" listings in many Regions

D6 - 163.8625 Simplex
D7 - 163.8625R / 167.5375 in
Prior to 1992 this was D7

D7 - 167.5375 R / 163.8625 in
After 1992 the Pair was Swapped

in Boston 163.1000 wasn't in the Radios

155.4750 was in "F Zone" along with 158.970 the local [No longer used]
InterCity Mutual Aid channel

Every radio has the following "D" channel lineup:

D1 168.8625 / 164.550
D2 164.550
D3 166.4625
D4 167.5625
D5 167.5375
D6 163.8625 / 167.5375
D7 163.100
D8 155.475

F Zone? To my knowledge, Chicago District never had an F Zone setup. Years ago 170.8250 was refered to as "F(requency) 3". Currently it is H(otel) 8.

Does anybody know if the F Zone was/is used by alot of Districts?

ecps92, do you know if any federal frequencies were in the F Zone you mention?

All depends on your Field Office. Here in New England [Boston FO - MA, NH, ME, RI]

We had: [Now lots more, due to mix of P25/Analog]

Zone A 01 -- 06 [Admin / Central MA / Cape / Boston]
Zone B 01 -- 08 [Boston Area]
Zone C 01 -- 08 [Tactical/Bank Sq/DEA/C3,C6,C7 Squads]
Zone D 01 -- 07 [OCDE/BUCOM/SWAT]
Zone E 01 -- 08 [MA - West/South
Zone F 01 -- 08 [New Hampshire]
Zone G 01 -- 08 [Maine]
Zone H 01 -- 08 [Rhode Island]

If they refered to it as "F-03" then [on the Sabre Radios]
with was Zone/Mode "F" [A-?] and Channel 03 [01-12]

F Zone? To my knowledge, Chicago District never had an F Zone setup. Years ago 170.8250 was refered to as "F(requency) 3". Currently it is H(otel) 8.

You know there has to be a master list somewhere. Wouldn't that be a neat item to get a look at?

I know there's probably a common zone or two but outside of that I think it's up to the locals. And you can throw in USMS now too. At least out here they have each others' channels in their radios since the FBI shop does their install and setup now.

From what I recall the first few zones were the regional repeaters (not always using all 16 channels btw; I think a Zone per "Net"), then some common channels, then a ton of off-the-wall simplex channels (one I can recall in the 140s) and then many zones of local fire and PD.

Another thing to note is I was told most of the agents didn't know much on how to use the radios. They were told but forget. So even though there are some special channels you'd probably never hear anything on many of them.

As far as I know, a Chicago Division radio has seven groups of eight frequencies. A group is for the Division office and West RA. B group is for the North RA. C group is for the the South RA. D is nationwide. E group is for the West RA. G and H are what were/are known as SSG/SOG.

I've never heard reference to a F(oxtrot) channel during the 35+ years I've monitored the feebs. Just always wondered why a phonetic was skipped or never made reference to. D8 155.4750 had 167.9 making it easy to identify a Bureau radio transmission. All other LEAs operated CSQ.

Wouldn't you think that HQ would require a master Nationwide list? I would think so just for asset tracking of repeaters if nothing else. But it is the Govt. so who knows?

No as I don't see a reason why. From what I've seen from the FBI the radio depts don't seem the most organized people.

About two years ago we did have the Kansas City SWAT team along with agents from ten different offices during an operation. D4 167.5625 and D5 167.5375 simplex P25 AES encrypted was being used because everyone had those channels in there radios. It was pretty cool, we could see the targets from the night vison camera that was mounted on the airplane above while sitting at the command post through a wireless video feed.
