Just so everyone is aware, no new radios have been installed in any of the FDNY Rigs in Staten Island. Not sure if this will be happening in the near future or not.

I am sure it will still be sometime before the rig installs start. They still need to do all the testing on the system and find all the bugs. Staten Island is suppose to be the first boro to switch over, but no time line yet.

Re-system

FDNY has been noted on 482.10625. they are in the testing phase.. it is offline as of friday around 1800hrs.

the central office are not aware due to the fact it is in the testing phase. radio repair is patching in the vhf to the uhf and monitoring for dead spots and areas where coverage is good. it is in the early testing phase

How is it that you know something like this, but have no clue about the radio system being supposedly tested?

Yes they were loud and clear here in Milford Ct. (about 60 miles from the city) from last Wed. thru Fri. night as the last post said. Manhattan FD and CW were being simulcast. No rumors. Today there were just long continuous tones on a lot of the freqs. Testing out deviation levels I imagine.

FDNY TX site

Motorola was testing the main transmit site at the Empire State Building today. They are using Motorola Quantar Repeaters going into combiners before going to the TX antennas.
There are multiple RX and TX sites around the city. Very neat setup at the ESB site.

I have a feeling the last frequencies PL will be 127.3. (483.29375). Just a guess.

digitalradio. Is the picture you have here, of the UHF system run by FDNY or is it another city agency that might be simulcasting for the purpose of testing?

I have a friend who absolutely insists that FDNY will not be using UHF for dispatch. He has "high" sources but I am doing my best to confirm. Thanks in advance

For clarification, FDNY no longer owns its own radios. All licenses and towers were transferred to DOITT. They hold all the cards right now.

The people I talk to say we are going to the UHF system with luck by the end of the year. I'm sure it will take much longer for them to change out 500 pieces of apparatus in which time we will proably simulcast VHF/UHF.

Frank, thanks. That may be the reason no one knows about it at FDNY.
Another borough says no?

Fire and EMS operations will be on UHF conventional. The UHF trunked system will support other purposes and users. The system was delivered is being installed. There are 10 TX simulcast sites and an additional constellation of RX sites.

I do not know how the schedule will pan out. However, my educated guess is that the system will be online well before the end of the year and then the new system and the old system will be cross-patched. During that cross-patched period I would expect that the FDNY will perform the changeover of radios in the trucks and ambulances.

What is happening now? While Motorola is installing the system, the FDNY radio technicians are being trained on the system. As well, we hear some system testing.
