As you have often said to me, the only reason you purchased this expensive radio is for purely listening in to your local shop watch frequency.

What I don`t understand is why you didn`t buy a Uniden SD200E at approx. one eighth of the price you paid for the 5700D?
When you look at it that way, then I guess you have made a big mistake!

I bought the AOR 5700D because its selling point was it covered most mods , The problem they did not tell you was that you cannot upgrade the radio yourself plus if it requires servicing it will have to be returned to Japan .

So your right the only mistake I made was buying it , But after paying out £4.5K you expect better in the same way I bought a IC-7851 its a very nice radio and works very well . But unless you know 100% that the SD causes the sensitivity problem with the 5700D its best not to say anything . This is a list of radios that Mike made up you can see what I mean .

Well I personally would not want someone else to go through what you have been through for the sake of not putting the supplied card into the radio! I mean it`s not as if it`s a gift to put in your camera that you might or might not have.
The fact that you have had no more problems in six weeks since putting the sd card in is beginning to speak for itself.
Take it back out now for six weeks and let`s see what happens?
And to think you gave AOR a slating in the beginning, along with not wanting to say anything about this SD card business isn`t painting too good a picture of you if I`m honest - but that is my personal opinion and wish you the best of luck now that you have a working radio.

Ok to put this to bed once and for all all you guys reading this topic right now , Pull out your SD card and tell me if your radio goes deaf . The SD card is a storage device nothing more and has nothing to do with your receivers senistivity .

The SD card has nothing to do but dont take my word for it contact AOR in Japan or W&S in the UK . So unless you can say 100% that it does it best not to say anything because your only drop your self in the **** .

Regarding past problems with the radio the radio going deaf has got nothing to do with the DALL or DMR not decoding that was down to firmware , So I stick by what I have said in the past .

Sorry Alan I have no idea what your talking about ? Anyway I have emailed W&S and asked them should the SD card be installed or not .
A SD card is as you know a storage device and has nothing to do with the radios sensitivity .

This is like telling me that your car wont start and your change a wheel it has nothing to do with it . All the people reading this who own a DV1 pull your SD card out and tell me if your sensitivity drops .

Earlier you were asked a question: What have you done that has resulted in your radio now working.

You avoided answering the question.

So I added that you have inserted an SD card into your radio which has been there for the past six weeks.

You have had no further problems - so the radio either mysteriously fixed itself or adding the SD card has helped with your problems you have had since you had the radio.

You seemed embarrassed by this. Why? I have no idea. Are you in denial? I`d say.... YES!

Sorry Alan you seem to have not been reading my messages in full , As you know the radio went up to BF for testing he found it also deaf and he tried to use his settings from his working 5700D onto my radio and it was the same still deaf . I will see if I can send you the video on here . Oh good it seems to have loaded if you cant play it I will send via your facebook account . So this confirms that the radio is deaf ok . So the radio was returned to me in its deaf state and was due to be returned to the dealer ok . A day before I was due to go to the dealer for some strange reason the radio was fully working again this was with no SD card fitted . So its not the SD card that made the radio work . While the radio was working I thought it best to copy the receivers setting . I think I ask you and BF on how to do copy the settings , If you read your old facebook messages its all there . So I made a copy of all the settings and so far the radio is still working but that does not mean that the card is keeping the radio working . Just go back through your old facebook message and your see what I mean . So why should I be embarrassed , There is nothing in the manual that states the SD card must be installed for full sensitivity if there is please show it to me . So I have no idea why your coming out with all this please read all your old facebook messages .

Well as I have stated before the radio started going deaf late last year , the SD card was never fitted until 6 weeks ago . So like I have said over and over again this is a red herring and nothing to do with DALL , DMR not decoding or the radio going deaf . All I do know is the radio is fully working now . But to say the SD card must be installed that is not true . On this group we deal with facts and to say that the SD card must be installed for the radio to work is far from the truth .Please go to the AOR web site and down load there 5700D manual and you can see for your self .

Ok my first reply is to Alan I bought the 5700D because like I have said before it covered all modes that I wanted it was the best scanner at that time you could buy but it said nothing about you having to return the radio to AOR for upgrade or servicing as for why spend all that money why not my HF beam the KLM 34XA is over £2800 one more reason why I bought the 7851 to replace my old 7800 .

" Manual does not tell you that receiver firmware is not user updatable and has to be returned to be updated either.. " Yes your right there Mike thats not in manual and one down point regarding the 5700D . But The manual should tell you all the information regarding the radio other wise whats the point in having a manual , This radio has been out over 2 years now and they have made a few changes but I have seen nothing regarding the SD card must be installed for full performance . As just look at the picture of the IC-275H and the AOR 5700D there is one big one big difference in signal strength . But I am sticking to my guns and state that having a SD card fitted or not fitted makes zero difference in signal strength . But since this debate I am sure will continue regarding the SD Card I have contacted AOR and then your see for your self .

But as I have said over and over again at the moment its working for how long I have no idea .But one of these days it will turn on and be deaf .

Yes Alan that is a message I sent you regarding what I used the 5700D for just listening to my local shop watch while I work in the shack so when it does go deaf I will know since the DMR signal just drops out . Anyway dinner time chat later

Reading this thread I am just struck by the appalling lack of support from AOR for radios that are clearly defective. The customer is expected to send a radio back to Japan multiple times with no resolution? On their dime? Seriously? I've never been impressed with AOR and I did own a AR-3000A 25+ years ago. One would expect MUCH more from such an expensive piece of gear. Think I'll be sticking with Icom.
