I’m a little biased. My radio crapped out twice on me. The 2nd time was within the 90 day period. They would not honor it and I had to pay to get it fixed. They did give me an extra battery as a sorry, but I have a sour taste in my mouth giving them anymore money considering I already purchased all 3 upgrades

ETA: Looks like my version of Sentinel is too old. I'll try an update.

Second update: Still not working after update. Restarted computer, still not working.

I tried to do the update although I'm not interested in the waterfall display.

I got an "Operation Timed Out" error message twice in a row. Scanner is on, set to USB Mass Storage, Internet connection is fine. Sentinel found the scanner with no problem.

Maybe too many people trying to do the update at the same time overloading the Uniden server.

Sentinel has two download links. What's strange is there's a listing for 2.02.01 > 2.03.00 then 2.02.03 > 2.05.03. There's no change for 2.02.01 > 2.02.03.
2.02.03 --> 2.05.03
  • Changed to support Waterfall.
2.02.01 --> 2.03.00
  • Added 2.5 kHz and 3.125 kHz steps to the Custom Search and Discovery mode.
  • Added settings to support the latest firmware updates for the SDS100/200.

I got both the RRDB update and the firmware update to work. I first tried using my Smart Phone as a hotspot. Got the same error message. Then I dug out my ancient Verizon Jetpack hotspot. That's 4G only, but it connected and worked.

I added the waterfall upgrade to my SDS200. I'm also an owner of the IC-R8600 which has a really nice spectrum display. I think Uniden did a good job with this out of the gate. I'm still learning but it definitely takes a while to scroll to an active signal. Of course I didn't RTFM so I could be missing something. I have to say I was amazed at being able to select 17 MHz of spectrum. Haven't spent much time on that but will revisit it to see how truly effective it is at that span, but that's pretty unique. I usually run my 8600 and Airspys at 2 MHz worth.

I'm going to add it to my SDS100 also. I think it's a pretty cool feature to add to these scanners and use some of that SDR capability they have. Good start!

Edit: Function > Knob for faster movement, then Function again to slow it back down. Nifty.

That's because their whole setup for downloads is horrible and could really use a facelift.

So can anyone confirm that to use the RF Gain, one must shell out 20 bucks for the waterfall or is the gain there without enabled waterfall?
I wouldn't be surprised if it was the former.

Hmm, you know what would've been a neat feature with this spectrum display? To have it display spectrum in real time while scanning a trunked system. Start scanning a trunked system, switch to spectrum display mode, and watch the spectrum around the control channel and traffic channels as it responds to talkgroup grants. Maybe another future $20 upgrade by 2026? 😬
