Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone know if the LPE-200 is capable of emitting an "Alert Tone" for emergency purposes and does anyone know where i can get 6 LPE-200 radios programmed for conventional use?

I'm not sure about the alert tone, but a search on eBay shows a number of LPE 200 radios both in the 800 MHz and 900 MHz band available for purchase. I'm not sure if you need any digital voice options such as Aegis or ProVoice, or just analog voice with them.

Alert tone as in a tone that comes across the radio when a button is pressed to notify my crew in the case of an evacuation or emergency. I'm not sure if the LPE features this? I've heard of it on the XTS radios.

All GE through Harris upper tier radios since the M-RK (and Orion) feature this function. (M-RK, LPE, J700p, P7100, P7200, etc.)

The radios will generate a single alert tone, or even a two-tone sequence to trigger pagers.

BTW:

All of these radios will also DECODE single or two-tone paging signals.

I have my all of vhf radios programmed to decode the 1050 Hz alert tone issued by the NWS during severe weather. This way, I can keep updated on adverse weather warnings, but not have to listen their broadcast unless an actual alert is issued.

Is there a software needed to issue the tone? Or can the tone be activated by pressing the Orange button? I am also in need of programming for 6 of these radios and possibly 6 more in the coming months. We are setting up a radio system in my work place with our 800mhz license at work. We require an employee alerting system since we have a 120,000 sf facility. We have an emergency response team and general operations and require all employees to be alerted by tone or message during an incident

You just program the functions to the radio(s), and then you can activate the desired function with a button press. And yes, the RED (emergency button) can be retasked to do this function.
