To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am looking for 2 good cheap antennas for 2 GE Orions. I have a UHF Hi and a VHF Orion that I am using as base radios for RX and Scanner feeds.
Can anyone recommend a good set of inexpensive antennas?

Also, I am looking to see if I need some kind of cable to hook the external speaker? I have no found a spot for the external speaker and I do not see a speaker on the radio itself.

Any information would help!

This is the back of the radio. I think I need another cable to connect to the back?

You'll need the speaker harness cable. Part Number 802554P1 and a speaker. Just remember the antenna connection is TNC.

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
Note that the pins are numbered on the connector. (Very small numbers in the black plastic.) If you have a small speaker laying around and a couple of small pins, you can test for audio on the pins. That's assuming that there's a signal to be heard, of course. But even key beeps when pressing the keys will work. Probe out the different pins and you'll find the ones for the speaker.

I'm positive that the two speaker connections are side by side. That makes it easier.

I'm gonna mess with it soon, I ordered an astron power supply and should be here any day now. I can't find a place to order the harness for the speaker. I want to use the radio to provide a feed.

Find a DB-37 connector and make your own, might be easier (and likely far cheaper!). But be warned I think there is DC on those pins, so you need to isolate it if you use it for a feed.

I just got the power supply in today with the radio and all I need now is to purchase the harness an speaker and get it programmed to RX only! Then I can begin to provide a feed. I have a uhf model on the way as well.

What kind of antenna would I need for an orion radio? I'm looking for something small for indoor use, my feed is local so I don't need anything crazy, just unsure where to start looking for something good and inexpensive?

Hmm. Well if you want, I could mail you my telescoping Uniden scanner one. I don't use it anymore. You'd just need a TNC to Bnc adapter.
