Hey everyone in Utah, If you hope to keep scanning Utah public safety things are changing.
Here is the information I have.
1. System cutover looks to begin at the end of this year or the beginning of next year, This will bring an end to the dinosaur that is the UCA Motorola type 2 system.
2. VHF systems you are currently scanning may go dark. UCA provided significant funding with L3Harris to get rural county organizations to purchase radios compatible with the new system.
3. Scanners for p23 phase2 are expensive. but they do not have to be. I have had great success monitoring the active sites with a couple of simple $30 dongles and antennas.
4. I have created a discord for Utah scanner nerds to have communication about how they are scanning around Utah in anticipation of this new system.

We now have RDIO set up with carbon county public safety!!! the RDIO app is much more powerful than other online scanner systems as it allows you to choose individual talk groups to listen to.

I listen to UCA on a HomePatrol-II and Pro-96. Will either of these have the ability to listen to the new system?

It looks like the home patrol 2 will do it, BUT that depends on where you are in Utah, if you are in a simulcast zone, it will struggle.

Well of course the only site I get reliably at my house is the Wasatch Simulcast 🙃 Thank you for your response 🙂 I will have to see how things sound when the switchover happens.

I program my HP2 with all sites in Morgan, Summit, and Wasatch Counties (I have a mount for that scanner in my car) and program my Pro-96 with Wasatch Simulcast and Lewis Peak. Kind of a bummer that the Pro-96 won't work with the new system.

I program my HP2 with all sites in Morgan, Summit, and Wasatch Counties (I have a mount for that scanner in my car) and program my Pro-96 with Wasatch Simulcast and Lewis Peak. Kind of a bummer that the Pro-96 won't work with the new system.

Thats ok! The cheapest option is to live the SDR life which allows us to do some really cool things. I am working on making sure that SDRTrunk can handle the simulcast but so far SDR Trunk with an RDIO scanner app, it works amazingly.
