IEncrypted transmission don't get snipped like the Uniden 396. I don't lock it out because it is a mixed clear/encrypted TG.

For the GRE people reading this thread --- how 'bout a adding a firmware change (if it can be done) to correct this????? Please?

Next to a scanner...

I'm still having a problem getting a VHF/UHF trunked system to work. I've posted the technical question in the VA forum as it is a local issue. However to help another scanner enthusiast see the problem I took some screen shots. I know someone asked for some "in action" screen shots, well here is one. The other two are for the problem I am having, but we see some differnet perspectives.

If anyone would like to discuss the LANGLEY UHF trunked issue, please do so here. I'd prefer not to cross post the discussion.

The photos I posted here to begin with (wrong thread) are now located here.

If your second picture is how you have it set up on the Langley system (http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=794), I think you should change the "High" to 380. Since your low and high are the same, the scanner probably thinks it can only listen to that one channel (and disregards the other control info sent on the CC).

Try that and see how it works....

-edit-

Looks like someone else helped you out in another forum - try his too:

(If it's a single table UHF system)

As it is now it will skip encryption on Mot 3600CC, but not on on P25 9600CC. I am sure there is some chance for an upgrade, we will have to wait and see.

In most of my area, if there is ENC on the TG, the whole TG is encrypted... but for at least one system, it's pretty routine to hear one side ENC and the other side not ENC (which seems strange to me but whatever)... bottom line is I don't want to just lock it out either.

Only if both sides of the comm are encrypted. If one radio is in the clear, the other set to encryption, the PSR500 will pass the encrypted audio, and the clear audio.

Actually IIRC, on 3600 systems it depends on which radio keys up first. If the encrypted radio keys up first the status bit will be set on the talkgroup to indicate that and you won't hear anything.

If the "in the clear" radio keys up first, the status bit will not be set, and you'll hear both the clear and encrypted sides (well the bleeps and blips of the encrypted side anyway).

Software is coming, don't worry about that...

Press PGM
Press F1:NEW
Press F1:TGRP

Select the scan lists you want the Talkgroup in (use left and right to select the number, then the SEL button in the middle to turn that scan list on or off)

If you have already created the TSYS (Trunked System) Object, select that on the TSYS line using the right and left arrows and press the SEL key. If you haven't created the TSYS object, select the NEW option and press the SEL key.

Set the parameters for the system you want to monitor (System type, tag, frequencies, etc.) and the press the F1:Save key.

Now set the talkgroup number, tag, and any other settings for the talkgroup and then press the F1:Save Key again.

You should now have the TSYS object, and at least one TGRP object for that TSYS object... Press Scan and listen.

In addition to reading the manual (which has a step by step example on how to setup a trunking system), I think within a few days it sounds like some PC software will be available to help you. Also.... If you let the thread know where you are, someone may already have a file for your area. There is software on the CD-ROM that will let you save and load data to the radio.

Not to mention did you look though the preload data guide and see if your area is already programmed into the V-Scanners? The preload data guide has step by step instructions on how to retrieve the preload data and make it ready for scanning. Craig

I think you need the sort of help that can not be provided here.

However, I will make an attempt to help you.

Take a DEEP breath, and then put your scanner down.

Now, OOOPPPEEENNNN the users manual and carefully read it.

Now, go back to your radio, with the user’s manual in hand, and then follow it step by step.

PHOTOS - can someone take a side by side photo of both their BC-396 and the PSR-500 and post 'em? If you don't have 396, post a side by side of a handheld that you do have....Thanks!

Actually, I just noticed the other thread titled PSR-500 IMAGES -- post there would probably be better...

EDIT: hey - anyone have any idea why GRE doesn't seem to be selling directly from their website - at least, not the PSR-500 - yet?

My Guess would be that they would rather continue forging partnerships with dealers and let them do the sales.

So far it seems great (Just got it in like 20 minutes ago). After being a little confused at first on programing I finally got it. Once I did that it was easy. Audio is great, digital modulation is great. Now I can't wait until Don Starr gets Win500 out. It might take him a little longer on this one since its completely different than the bank system scanners he has wrote software for in the past. I can live with programming it by hand for now though.

You'll have a choice on software as well.. See my signature below...

I just received mine earlier today with thanks to Jeff at Hamstation for quick delivery. I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but it most definitely very neatly decodes NAC, and has crisp clean audio. I think the audio could be a bit stronger, but that may be my ears. Programming is simple and was simplified by a well written manual that was made available prior to the radio arriving, which was a nice move on GRE's part.

I'm going to do the out of the box photo thing and will also include a side by side with the 396 if no one else beats me to it.

Thanks again, Hamstation!

Don't think software was ever part of the offering. The CD has the 1.07 OM and drivers plus OM for the cable.
