Doesn't the software that came with it, program it?

The software that comes with it is a general remote control demo, and also allows saving and restoring the radio's data to files on a PC. As of now it looks like there will be a couple 3rd party PC applications available real soon.

Don't think software was ever part of the offering. The CD has the 1.07 OM and drivers plus OM for the cable.
Plus a "Demo app" that does some monitoring, control, and PC/IF upload/download.

I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but it most definitely very neatly decodes NAC, and has crisp clean audio. I think the audio could be a bit stronger, but that may be my ears.

Scott, when you get a chance to look at the manual you may see that it has an audio boost.

Expert menu: AudioBoost, On or OFF, Applies a 6 dB boost to audio levels when the
object is active:cool:

Step Size

Congratulations to all those that have received their new toys! Now that you have had some time to play/program, I have one question. There was some intial concern in the previous "Pre-Release" threads about the fixed step size. I did see mention of the FLEXSTEP function as well in one t other thread. Is the step size adjustable on the PSR500?

Thanks.

Well Mikey60 got me on the road to VHF/UHF trunked scanning properly. I needed the lower and upper sections of the custom table filled in and I didn't.

I put a couple of more photos on the photo page.

I'm going to give the scanner a run for its money tomorrow at the local seafood fest.

Until I get software, I am not going to load much more into memory. I don't text message alot so my thumbs and fingers are getting sore. :D

It's lighting. The buttions are just like the PRO-96, built to last.

It's just you. ;)

Seriously, if they kept the same manufacturing quality on the buttons as the did on the Pro-96, the lettering should be fine and I doubt it's rubbing off already. As we speak, my Pro-96, that's much older than my BCD396T, has the lettering in the same great condition as the first day I got it.

Please release something this weekend, even if it's a Beta! ;) :)

I'll second that. This scanner is really quite easy to program, but nothing beats software. I'm going to keep mine runing the basics until I can do it by computer. Programming trunked systems with the wildcard is a breeze, and fortunately the TRS I monitor the most is all public safety...but even then it's a breeze to give unwanted TG's the kibosh.

Dave, thanks for the tip on the audio boost. I read the manual twice but missed that. Ah well, that's what it's there for.

So far so good. I was going to post some out of the box shots but no need for redundancy there. Very pleasant experience thus far. My stock antenna is a bit loose also, I must say. As stock antennas go, this one seems to do a fair job of receiving signals...in my basement no less. It'll spend most of its time connected to external antennas anyway.

I'm waiting to hear about the NAC decoding/searching feature. That's the one major interest of mine in deciding whether to purchase a PSR-500 or not.
I've been able to get a NAC without any discernable voice. As long as that section of data is passed, and it's often, it shows it. A+ feature.

Hey, by the way....is there a mod for this to receive cell phones?

Just kidding...

No, the mod to make it transmit will come out first! ;)

I'm not finding the numeric keypad to be the most responsive ever. Am I just being too gentle with my new $500 investment or is anyone besides me finding that on occasion there is no response when pushing one of them.

I like the menu system with one exception. I'd love to see it scroll back around to the beginning again. Yes, I know that FUNC ^ takes it back to the top. I guess maybe I'm just being lazy.

I've got the last piece of the puzzle in place. I just have a couple small things I need to do tonight, and I'll probably be able to put out a demo (30 days) version in the next 48 hours.

Scott, did you try the RS800MHz antenna? Does it fit better than the stock antenna?
