The typos/errors that are being posted ARE IN 1.9. My feeling is that posting the things we find is not meant to be nitpicking (in most cases we can understand the intent of what was printed) but instead is intended as an assist to GRE and each other with the hope that a later version in PDF format will be posted.

Like it was mentioned earlier, there's already a thread JUST for errata on the manual that some of us have been submitting to since before the radio was even released.

P.S. There's also a thread started for undocumented features and tips....

What do you see when you press "3"? CPU 1.5? 1.6? this is something they didn't put in the manual. john

Can you elaborate on what you mean they didn't put in the manual? Are you talking about the CPU version or the key-presses to get to it?

In the case of CPU version, I would think it's useless to put the original version number in the manual since that's most likely to change several times in the future.

In the case of the key-presses, Page 90 of the manual shows a detailed list of them.

Psr-500

In the manual, like the pro96 they say press 3 on welcome screen for cpu, dsp:app, and vocoder info. I was just wondering what factory cpu, app, voc versions are shown in the psr-500 from someone that has the radio.

Some concerns have been raised about how this thread could explode once more PSR-500's arrive. I have a few suggestions for the group to consider.

1 - Consider posting operations questions in new threads with a descriptive subject line, or start sticky threads for different categories of questions. This could help people with specific needs to find where to go, and might also help organize data for later movement to the Wiki.

2 - Don't PM suspected beta testers unless they ask you to. Making your question public gives you access to answers from everyone here. PM'ing a beta tester will simply overload his mailbox while putting all your eggs in one basket. The best chance of getting a good FAQ or effective Wiki coverage is to keep the discussion out here in the open.

3 - I also agree with the guy pleading for us to read the manual. I've been studying 1.9 since it came available. It's keeping me from going crazy waiting for my radio to come in!

I got mine today from Scanners Unlimited....serial number in the first 1300 units. I programmed Illinois statewide 700/800Mhz trunking system: Starcom21. All I can say is phenomenal!!!!!! Everything. Trunking. Audio. Features. Color. LED. No 700Mhz signal drop offs. Very easy to use. Very different than anything I have been used to. I have worked both jobs in past 24 hours so I am exhausted and need to be back at work at 8am. So, tomorrow I leave early and I will program in another couple sites and test the multi site stuff over the weekend. The LEDs going off in the dark room here look like Christmas lights. I will also do some 396 and 500 side by side stuff once I am no longer sleep deprived. Oh, using Radio Shack 800 antenna. Didn't even mess with the stock antenna.

Worth EVERY dollar so far. This is as exciting as us having our first color TV as a kid....I am 47 so my first 5 years were black & white only GRE has taken me into the color TV world of scanning. Man, am I pumped.

Thanks again to Glenn from Scanners Unlimited for everything on his end.

Maybe if a Mod would sticky the errata thread it would help? I'm sure GRE is tracking this thread anyway. Where else would they get the latest information about their product on the WWW? :D

Thanks for the report on 700MHz Starcom21. This should be encouraging to others with 700MHz trunking! From what I can tell from the early reports, the audio is even better than the PRO-96. This is fantastic!

Sounds like Glenn jumped through hoops for his customers again.

I've created a poll on to allow users of the GRE-500 to post if the fit of the supplied antenna fits OK or is loose on the BNC connection. If yours is fine or not, I'd encourage a vote so we can figure out if it's a narrow or widespread issue.
Thanks

I'm waiting to hear about the NAC decoding/searching feature. That's the one major interest of mine in deciding whether to purchase a PSR-500 or not.

All I can say is it works very well, and is quick to detect the code. In code serch mode, the radio will detect the time of code being used (CTCSS, DCS, or NAC) and the correct setting for that code automatically, and very quickly.

Anyone figured out what the Capital G next to the trunk control indicator is?
"Global Attenuator" mode. When it's illuminated, pressing the "ATT" key turns attenuation on/off for everything, ignoring each object's individual "Atten" settings.

EDIT: Oh, and you toggle Global Atten mode on/off by pressing FUNC + ATT

Yeah. Sorry, I was reading the descriptions of the various screen displays (conv. trunked, etc.) and missed the pg 23 description. I thought it was a trademark for GRE ! :)

I'm still having a problem getting a VHF/UHF trunked system to work. I've posted the technical question in the VA forum as it is a local issue. However to help another scanner enthusiast see the problem I took some screen shots. I know someone asked for some "in action" screen shots, well here is one. The other two are for the problem I am having, but we see some differnet perspectives.

If anyone would like to discuss the LANGLEY UHF trunked issue, please do so here. I'd prefer not to cross post the discussion.

The photos I posted here to begin with (wrong thread) are now located here.

Hey, am I the only person working today?
Had the choice to get the radio today or pay $15.00 less and get on Friday.
I run a business and can't be calling out sick on Friday, so I chose the Friday delivery.

Either I'm in the wrong business or you all need to GET JOBS;-)

Here's hoping Don has WIN500 out by 1700 EST Friday...wait he's busy playing with his 500....

I work 2 jobs! 1 full and one part-time. I only had time to program 1 trunked system and a few conventionals. On my way to work today 700Mhz digital system was excellent. A few "terrain" issues with reception just like users are experiencing but overall very, very good reception. Encrypted transmission don't get snipped like the Uniden 396. I don't lock it out because it is a mixed clear/encrypted TG. Worth the trade off at this time for such a great unit. Ooops, time for me to leave...do my hour drive home and play with the 500. Later guys and gals!
