Wasn't that the police doing that:eek:
Larry

actually they were all Walton county fire department employees. Here's one who claims to have been one involved confessing his troubles right here on RR:

so there you have it from a "reformed M hacker". Interesting how this is in response to the same OP who was fishing for unauthorized programming help last year. Wonder if that's where all the unauthorized affiliations on 192C of late have been coming from?

MTS2000des, he's been doing the same thing for almost three years now!! This started back in 2007. Someone asked why it hasn't sunk into his skull yet. I'm guessing well packed boulders up there have prevented this from happening. To bad we can't do a foxhunt to see who is doing that:wink:

what he seems ignorant of is that many of the system managers of the systems he is attempting to access are also users/readers of this and the other forums he posts on. Just more evidence that could be used against someone in securing a criminal conviction. I'd hate to see that happen, the last thing we need is another radio enthusiast getting popped for this crap. It's this and the nutjobs like the ham in CA who jammed PS radio for two days getting arrested that puts us all in a bad light and just adds more fuel to those setting the fires to secure, encrypt and lock down all future PS radio systems from ANY type of monitoring at all.

The Walton County case was not an example of what I described. What they did is access an actual county computer and used it to program their issued radios with police talk groups.
What I am describing has never been prosecuted in GA...at least according to my colleagues over at the prosecuting attorney counsel. These guys basically just used a computer at work they weren't allowed to access. They should have just asked the administrator and demonstrated a need to use those talk groups. Thats what ive done in the past.

they also allegedly programmed other systems into county owned radios, including Dekalb's system without permission. Accessing a trunking system is accessing a computer network. Have your colleagues haul in a trunking system controller, network hub, and server that runs the actual individual ID database into a courtroom and they'll have no problem convincing a jury of 12 that it meets the Georgia law letter definition of a computer network. Trunking systems, especially Astro 25 systems, are nothing more than closed private virtual networks. The "terminals" that access it just happen to be public safety radios. Every radio has a unique IP address in addition to an individual ID. the system relies on IP for interconnection and traffic management.

anyone who thinks that this isn't true be my guest to try it out in court, and come on RR and blog about it...good luck I think if you act as your own counsel, GA DOC will let you have access to the Internet from your institution but not sure if you can get to forums (probably not, don't know never been in prison and don't plan to be, especially on count of radios!)

In their own words, unauthorized programming cost them their careers, their family, and their financial future. Those were the words of one who claims to be one directly involved not mine. But one can do as he/she wishes, don't say that warnings were not given.

Your right, they did do a lot of things but the only criminal act they were prosecuted for was accessing their county programming computer. None went to prison, they got felony probation.

Is GCPD and other county law enforcement agencies on this system yet? Because the DTRS in the database does not have any talk groups ID's for PD's, Just FD...

But I know that GCPD has gone digital but dont know why the DTRS hasn't been updated?

Could someone update it if possible please?

thanks,
Alex
GCPD is Encrypted. GCFD isnt.......YET. I live less than 5 mins from their new dispatch center. It is very fancy and you have MEGA room where in the old Comm Ctr in GCPD HQ is was cramped and it was hard to hear the PD Units talk to the dispatchers. You also heard background noise but in the new center, esp listening to Fire Dispatch, you dont hardly hear any background noise.
