If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Greetings all,

My apologies if this is covered well somewhere else. I have a XG-100P and I am trying to program the radio. It seems that the RPM software is wildly expensive, but is there an alternative way to program in GMRS/itinerant/business frequencies ? I have not figured out how to perform front panel programming, like on the Motorola radios. If there is an easy tutorial somewhere that I have missed, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

RPM is the only way to program the XG-100p, and FPP needs to be enabled in the software I believe, so if it's not enabled it won't work.
Find a friend with RPM or sell the radio for something you can program yourself without paying a fortune for software

Thank you for the response, so if FPP is not enabled then I cannot program through the radio itself?
There isn't any open source tool that can quickly program the radios? Are there any vendors or reputable parties that program radios for a fee?

Thank you

Correct

No open source tools, Harris keeps their software very lock and key.
As for vendors or parties? Reach out to any local Harris dealers or maybe someone on this website who is willing to do such

That’s right. FPP is a feature of every 100P, but there has to be an admin password set for the radio in RPM. Once that’s set, you can enter it and FPP. Also remember that you really can’t program the radio from the front panel in its entirety… you can’t change modes (narrow, wide, P25) and you can’t get a bunch of programming done and then export that from the radio. Each time you load that mission plan from the radio interface, it will clear all FPP you did previously.

There is no other software available that can program a Harris radio. I know I’ve seen programming offered on ‘bay, but I have no experience with it.

The problem is that you cannot load a mission plan without RPM so someone can’t just email you a plan set up how you want. They have to have the radio. Then they have to ensure that you’re firmware is new enough for the version of RPM they have.

Current firmware is XLPR06T02

Thank you for this helpful post. Is there a way to see which firmware I have, and to know what version of RPM is needed?

Chances are RPM version 14 or RPM2 will get the job done. When I purchased mine from a dealer it included both versions which means anyone you send it to will likely also have both.

RPM2 will not work with the XG100P (I wish it did). RPM (the last version of which is 14C) is what you need for the 100P.

If the OP doesn’t find a copy of RPM I will happily fork over $50 cash for the poor radio. Just think how relieved you will feel when the burden is lifted. Never mind the financial losses I incur for you people, I‘m just here to make RR members feel good about themselves.

My mistake, I thought I read in a previous thread that RPM2 was needed but I am mistaken.

Carry on

No RPM2 will program the Harris XG100M mobile but not the portable at all. The last version of RPM that is out in the wild is RPM14c05 and you need the 2 .DLL files that go with it in order to open it up you might say. Plus you need to also know what 3 boxes to check and or uncheck so you DO NOT AFFILIATE to any trunking system at all. Plus chances are wideband will be disabled on UHF and you will need a very good reason for Harris to give you a feature string to activate it, no i want to use the radio for ham or GMR use will do, but you can program wideband on vhf.

The trunk function is activated in the receiver. But there are no conversations in the trunk, although all parameters are configured
