• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

My harris xg100 has the wideband restriction removed from it.
How were you able to get it removed? I try to go through a dealer to have the wideband restriction removed and they basically...appropriate for this forum just flat out said NO that they wouldnt do it. Ive heard of people having zero problems going through Harris to have the feature removed, and I've also heard of people having issues. Any advice?

You just need a friendly dealer and there are some out there.

My XG100P already had the wideband restriction removed; good thing, as I need wideband for ham radio use.

I bought mine from W/S Electronics in Xenia, Ohio (it was their demo model); I work with them regularly. If you're a licensed ham and have a legitimate need to have wideband removed, I suspect they would sell you the feature update. They're good to work with.

Honestly your best bet is to just get a new unit all together WITHOUT wideband disabled…. Then again we run into the issue of different reversions of the radio that came with certain features standard

Enabling wideband, or disabling the "WB disable feature" is a non issue, I know of many radios that have been fixed in the last year for very cheap or free. If the radio has all the other features he needs then just make it wideband again.

L3HARRIS TAC. No one else is authorized to make repairs on those. NLT is one of their largest or the largest authorized service center and even they aren't allowed to touch them.

This is exactly why I chose not to touch this radio with a thousand foot pole...

Concur. It's really not that difficult to load a new feature string.

I totally agree about the feature string. I am running a Harris XG/M7300 listing here in Montgomery County and I had to buy the phase 2 string for my radio plus I am also running 2 Harris xg100P as well. One of them is my goto radio for when I travel and my other one i have it set up as a mini base station connected to a discone antenna outside and a battery that has a 12volt plug on it to a 12-15volt power supply. The M7300 is mounted in my van and I wish it would hold more TG's and do smartzone as well. The advantage that it has over my apx is i can park it on a TG that i want to monitor unlike with the apx I can not when NAS mode.

Doesn't NYSP have M7300s in all troop vehicles cross-banded with those pyramid VRSs? And yeah i totally know what u mean regarding the whole monitoring of a TRS. Motorola radios will attempt to affiliate once signal coverage gets spotty. ProScan is the greatest thing ever in Harris radios

My XG-100P does the wideband on 2 meter no problem but when trying to load wideband channel on 70 cm it errors out? I guess I need to remove WB restriction? If so do I need to purchase feature code and if so where?

Thanks

good luck on getting Harris to write you a feature string to remove wideband on 70cm. Just not going to happen unless you know someone who works at harris. why they are so against removing the WB on 70cm who knows because I sure don't..

So what is the typical consequence of using narrowband on the "average" Ham repeater? Do very many people notice?

Well, here we are 2 days later and I got my feature update string, loaded it up and voila radio is no longer WB restricted. So in other words its not true do not believe Nay-Sayers when they tell you its impossible to get update code strings for these radios.

Thanks to prcguy and few other people problem is solved. This is why it is so important to communicate and exchange ideas and experiences ...

Glad to hear it worked out. I'm just a conduit, thank the guy I pointed you to as he found the friendly dealer and is willing to help other hams get their radios upgraded. Can you let us know what it cost?

The WB restriction removal feature string was $20 which is well worth it in my opinion. Installation itself was simple and straight forward as all that is required is to load the feature string (code) in to the radio and restart. Once again audio is what it should be across the amateur bands.
