• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Thank you for the info! So the channel pool for a cap single site would only contain 2 freqs?
It's entirely dependant on how many RF channels the Cap+ single site system has. CAP+ single site can have as little as 1 RF channel(2 time slots) to as many as 8 RF channels(16 time slots).

One system local to me has 4 RF channels and it's a single site system.

What I fail to grasp is the usage case. If the site only provides one freq pair on two slots, that is no different than a conventional MotoTRBO repeater. And then, if the site has more than one pair, are they just channels that are available to the user, but not controlled like a trunked system?

Another question...if the site has two or more pairs, will the TG traffic get routed to the other pair(s)?

It's different in that the repeater will dynamically assign a time slot. With conventional a talkgroup is static slaved to a time slot.

If a site has more than one pair, the system assigns time slots based on demand. It's not controlled like CAP Max or P25 with a continous control channel, but the Info is sent over the rest channel.

Absolutely. The system will assign a talkroup to what ever next timeslot is available. The busier the system, the more time slots that will be used.

Cap+ pumps out a CSBK on its rest channel, and during traffic on any RF channel that updates talk group activity, it also puts the current rest channel in both the Slow Link Control every 4 timeslots, and in the link control during call activity so radios can figure out where to go, either to the call if they are apart of it, or to go to the rest channel slot if they aren't busy.

A good thread covering how Cap+ works on a decoding level can be found here:
