I just bought a home patrol 2 and I have entered my zip code which is 45701. And I’m not picking up Athens county sheriffs office or Athens ems. What Am I doing wrong

Did you use Sentinel to update the database in the scanner?

I have not done a update on the scanner yet
Both are on the Ohio MARCS system. They don't show as encrypted. As @buddrousa mentioned, the database that comes with a new scanner is a very old database and needs to be updated first thing.
Do you know how to use the Sentinel software for the HP 2 to create a "Favorites List"?
Looks like everything you want to hear is using the Marcs IP system...
And your area is not simulcast from what I see, so your HP 2 should work fine...
Welcome to the RR forums. In addition to the advice give above, please make sure Law Dispatch, Law Talk & Law Tac service types are turned on otherwise the scanner will bypass traffic on those talkgroups. I advise against zip code scanning if you plan on monitoring this system on a regular basis. Familiarize yourself with favorites list programming, utilize Uniden Sentinel to make the process easier, as it imports data directly from the Radioreference database & you don't need an RR premium sub to do so

Here is a link for HomePatrol Sentinel: Sentinel for HP1 & HP2 This is the one to use with the orange icon. There is a different Sentinel for the BCDx36HP and SDS100/200 scanners with a green icon. Are you in Athens City?
