Last night, I monitored ALUMINUM (airborne) giving EAMs *only* on 4724khz. I heard two of them. I believe they both were 48 characters. ANDREWS AFB followed-up with a few global EAMs.

Also, FIDDLE was on 4739L but they moved traffic to alternate frequency -- I believe it was UHF. Time was roughly 0200z.

Offutt was busy last night Thursday March 8 0200 thru 0315 GMT. Copied 8 EAM's. 2 22 count; 4 23 count and 2 6 count with no preamble.

The EAM messages are counted from the 1st character of the preamble to the last character of the full message. You can see this when they correct a character and identify it by its "item" number. The first character of the preamble is "Item 01".

Also, when the message is over 28 characters the radio operator will announce a message of xx or xxx characters. If you count these after they are sent you will see that the count includes the preamble.

The 6 character messages are basically preamble only, rather than a 6 character message without a preamble as you mentioned.

BEER-RUN (E-6) is dishing out EAMs tonight on at least two discrete frequencies: 11244 and 13155.

This one seems confined to the east coast as it was hard to hear on the west coast.

Confirmed times were H+20, H+40

Mainetrunk, that's because the signal is smack in the middle of the 30m ham band. The only modes allowed are CW and digital(RTTY, AMTOR, PACTOR, PSK31 etc). Do you have a recording?

Maine if it's the one I'm thinking about, that signal has been around for years. It's widely thought to be US Navy sending RTTY encrypted data.

Please start a new thread if you're not sure of where something goes. I can always merge it with something if its appropriate. As this has nothing to do with milair or civil air, let's move on.....Mike
