    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

High power radio installation considerations

Does anyone know of any special considerations in installing a high power radio (PM1500 VHF) in a car? Other than the power requirements, the radio is rated for 110 watts. Is there any specific place an antenna would be better suited? As of now it's on the trunk with a wideband PCTel antenna, with 2.4 db gain on a ground plane. The car is a 2012 Malibu. Currently have a 35 watt Kenwood 7180 in place.

Center of the roof is recommended. 110 watts is a lot, and some of that will come through the back window if it's on the trunk. I wouldn't want that long term, personally, but many won't care.

We have 100 watt VHF MCS-2000's in our Crown Vics. Antennas are center of trunk lid, no issues. I know the newer cars have a lot more electronics in them, so you might want to test it out first to make sure it gets along with the rest of the car.

Remember that most of a vertical antenna's radiation comes from the first 1/4 of the antenna starting at the base.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I really don't want to mess with the work of pulling the headliner down. Lol
