Hopefully they are further along with the system than it appears to us, time is ticking til the RNC.

I agree. Maybe they will do the switch over in July sometime and be ready at the end of the month or first week of August then be ready for the RNC I know it'll be a total nightmare where the event will be taking place.

The P25 system is still quiet as of 11:39pm Friday night.

What kind of scanner

I live in Hillsborough county and want to buy my first scanner to use for scanning the Sherrifs Dept and also racing. Do I need a digital, trunking or analog? Or would I need two separate scanners? Or can you even scan the Sherrif's Dept? Thought I read somewhere they were EDSCA Pro Voice and my understanding is Pro Voice cannot be scanned.

Hello Jerry,

In the next month you'll need a digital scanner when the Hillsborough County switches over to P25 (Digital) in August sometime around RNC comes around. Right now you can use a either a 996XT, 396xt by Uniden or the PSR800 handheld by GRE. HCSO is using the analog system right now. So far no one knows when the HCSO is going to make the switch to the P25 system. When the RNC comes around both HCSO, Tampa and Pinellas will be using two different radio systems for the convention. It's still not clear whos going to take the P25 system after the RNC leaves town.

I noticed that HCSO EDAC's system is scratchy when units and command and dispatch talk to who ever.

I haven't but I tried listening to the system again earlier today it's dead silent didn't hear anything that sounded encryption.

Is there any possibly that Hillsborough County is going to use the 700 TRS for the RNC from a portable Mobile Tower that they are going to park outside the Conv. center just for the RNC and then after the RNC they will turn the main tower on and start transitioning to the P 25 for every one Just wondering if anyone else was thinking the same thing

They might use a portable tower at the RNC for portable communications to each portable user and maybe have another talk group set up for mobile to mobile or mobile to portable access. I wonder also if their awaiting this week sometime or next week to have everything setup and ready be in use before then...Who knows really what they have planned to start talking on the system. Hopefully they won't use encryption for the RNC but seeing how this is big time event for the Governors and Secret Service they might want the system encrypted.

Like I said before I scan/listen to the P25 system and it's quiet with nothing being heard and at times they have the system turned off not sure why though maybe getting ready for the RNC.

How many of you guys and ladies will be listening to the P25 system when the RNC comes to town. I will be unless it'll be encrypted I hope not but I have a feeling it will be due to all the high government officials, secret service and so on.

I most likely will not be listening to Hillsborough county's P 25 unless they increase the power. Last time i tried to listen I was In the fringe area in around Lakeland

I agree I wish they would increase the transmitter power around the area if your not close to the transmitter location (78th Street) in Tampa the person won't be able to listen to the system. I live in Valrico use to be able to have no problems picking up the system but now I have to use the GRE pre amp to pick it up same with the Analog EDAC system.

TO : Git-R-Done, I don't know if you listen to Polk or not but while they were building the P 25 System the Cntrl Channel was very week but after all the units switched over they increased the power to the P 25 system. hopefully when Hills. Co. starts using the P 25 they will do the same thing as Polk

When I go through Polk county on the way to Lakeland I can hear them around Thonotosassa Rd passing Starbucks. I can hear Lakeland on their Analog system with no problems. Just when it comes to digital in this area for Hillsborough county I have the no signal problem unless I get close to the tower.
