• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Ah for some reason it didn’t show on a mobile device. When I looked on laptop it’s there. My bad. Sorry.

Providing the applicant passes through any automated filtering that may be in play.. I've had a few applications over the years where I met and exceeded the alternative statement, only to be automatically "disqualified" for not meeting said 4-year degree minutes after submission.

I don't believe the job involves maintaining ham repeater systems (based on the offer in the link). Although it's interesting that having a license is a requirement.

Aside from that, seems like a LOT of qualifications and requirements for someone that (isn't advertised) to be a leader of a section.

Thanks
Joel

The could have county owned ham equipment for Ares/Races

As for the requirements, it appears that only a Drivers license Is required. The rest don’t specify that.

Trying to combine an IT person with a degree and a experienced radio tech is laughable to me.
making a amateur radio license a requirement makes it that much more silly.
and for the pay listed, really?

Unfortunately the days of being a radio tech without knowing IT are long gone. Especially when dealing with the 911 systems listed.

It’s a one stop tech for everything it appears.

Although I like the idea of one stop technicians for everything, it just seems to me that the list of certifications needed are kind of high for someone.

Is this normal with the current state of communications technology?
Is this considered entry level?

Thanks
Joel

As a systems engineer in the temperature control business, I initially thought having IT knowledge was laughable. Then, we started doing temperature controls over the customer's IT network. I then convinced my boss to send me to community college to take some IT courses.

On networked public safety systems, I can see where having IT knowledge would be critical.

The way I read that was the only thing required was a valid drivers license and GROL . Everything else appears preferred.
Being on the tech side of 911, nothing really jumps out at me as being overly required.

Most of the certifications, you could get within a few weeks as some is redundant.
They also could be listing some of that to keep away those who bull**** their way into the position and wouldn't have a clue...

P25 systems are 90% networking and 10 % RF . If its a Motorola system, its even worse.
